ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Project Controls Manager to lead project controls delivery for Rio Tinto Closure Legacy in the Americas Region (AMR).
This is a great opportunity for an organized, detail-oriented individual to provide leadership to a team of project controllers and schedulers, ensuring consistent, high-quality cost, schedule, progress, and portfolio reporting across a complex regional closure portfolio.
Working closely with the Global Project Controls Manager, regional AMR leadership, site teams, study leads, contractors, and functional partners including Finance, Procurement, HSE and Controllership, you will provide the leadership, governance and coordination required to support informed decision-making. You will manage team workload, scope, deliverables and performance, while driving alignment to global project controls standards, tools and processes, and you will:
- Lead the monthly project controls consolidation for the AMR closure portfolio, including budget tracking, forecasting, accruals, progress reporting, schedule performance, portfolio reporting and Annual Plan Review support.
- Manage the workload, scope, deliverables and performance of AMR project controllers and schedulers, providing clear direction, coaching and technical guidance.
- Provide leadership and technical oversight to ensure project controls outputs are accurate, timely and aligned with business requirements.
- Analyse cost, schedule, progress and performance trends to support strategic and operational decision-making by site, regional and functional leadership.
- Partner with District Managers, Site Managers, Study Leads, contractors and functional teams to verify cost and schedule performance and establish routine progress review forums.
- Manage key stakeholder relationships across AMR project leadership and supporting functions including Finance, Procurement, HSE, CSP and Controllership.
- Oversee project controls support for SAP project creation, budget uploads, WBS structure, Service Entry Sheets, Purchase Requisitions, Purchase Order tracking, vendor management and invoicing verification.
- Promote compliance with standardized project controls processes, systems and tools, and support alignment with the Global Project Services Team.
ABOUT YOU
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, finance, business, or a related discipline is desirable.
- Significant experience in project controls, ideally within a complex project, portfolio, mining, construction, closure or heavy industry environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing performance and providing technical direction in a project controls environment.
- Strong understanding of project management and project controls disciplines, including cost control, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, earned value management and accruals.
- Experience managing project controls deliverables across a portfolio of projects and supporting senior stakeholders with clear, decision-ready insights.
- Ability to analyse data, identify trends and risks, and translate findings into practical recommendations for operational and leadership teams.
- Experience supporting process improvement, change management and standardisation of tools, systems and ways of working.
- Proficiency in SAP, Excel and Power BI, with the ability to use reporting tools to improve visibility, governance and decision-making.
