Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Dietitian Jobs
Target clinical and specialized positions
Focus on clinical dietitian roles at hospitals, specialized nutrition counseling positions, and research-based opportunities. These demonstrate the specialized knowledge required for H-1B qualification more clearly than general wellness coaching.
Emphasize your registered dietitian credentials
Highlight RD or RDN certification prominently in applications. The credential requirements and supervised practice hours help establish the specialized nature of dietitian work for visa purposes.
Research healthcare employers with sponsorship history
Large hospital systems, healthcare networks, and medical research institutions are most likely to sponsor dietitians. Check DOL disclosure data to identify employers who've sponsored similar roles.
Document your specialized training areas
Whether oncology nutrition, pediatric dietetics, or sports nutrition, specialized certifications and training help differentiate your role from general nutritionist positions that may not qualify for H-1B.
Consider state licensing requirements early
Most states require dietitian licensing, which can complicate the sponsorship timeline. Research target state requirements and begin the licensing process while your H-1B petition is pending.
Prepare for specialty occupation challenges
USCIS sometimes questions whether dietitian roles require a specific degree. Gather evidence showing how your nutrition science education directly relates to clinical assessment, medical nutrition therapy, and patient care duties.

Find Dietitian JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do dietitians qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, dietitians can qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the role requires specialized nutrition science knowledge and a bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or related field. Clinical dietitian positions at healthcare facilities typically have the strongest cases, as they involve medical nutrition therapy and specialized patient care that clearly requires degree-level education.
What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a dietitian?
You typically need a bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition science, food science, or a closely related field. The degree must align with the specialized knowledge required for the position. International degrees need credential evaluation, and you may need to complete additional coursework if your program lacks specific requirements like biochemistry or clinical nutrition courses.
How to find Dietitian jobs with visa sponsorship?
Start by using Migrate Mate, which specializes in visa sponsorship opportunities for healthcare professionals. Focus your search on hospitals, aged care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and government health departments, as these employers commonly sponsor dietitians. Target skilled visa programs like Australia's 482 and 186 visas or similar healthcare worker visas in other countries where dietitians are in high demand.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor dietitians for H-1B visas?
Large hospital systems, healthcare networks, medical research institutions, and university medical centers are most likely to sponsor dietitians. These employers regularly work with specialized healthcare professionals and understand the visa process. Corporate wellness programs at large companies occasionally sponsor, but healthcare settings offer stronger specialty occupation arguments.
How does state licensing affect H-1B sponsorship for dietitians?
Most states require dietitian licensing, which can complicate timing since you typically need to be physically present to complete requirements. Some states accept international credentials more readily than others. Plan to begin the licensing process while your H-1B petition is pending, and consider targeting states with more streamlined international licensing procedures.
What challenges do dietitians face in H-1B applications?
USCIS sometimes questions whether dietitian roles require a specialized degree, particularly for general nutrition counseling positions. The key challenge is distinguishing your role from nutritionist positions that may not require specific education. Strong cases emphasize clinical responsibilities, medical nutrition therapy, and specialized patient populations that clearly require formal dietetics training.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Dietitian jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
