Advertising Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a advertising in Illinois?
Advertising is not a licensed profession in Illinois, so there is no state-issued credential required to work in the field. Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in advertising, marketing, or communications from an accredited program, which Illinois hosts at institutions including Northwestern University, DePaul University, and the University of Illinois. Building a portfolio of real campaign work, whether from internships, student projects, or freelance clients, is the most consistent hiring factor across Chicago-area agencies and in-house marketing teams.
Which companies hire advertisings in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring advertisings in Illinois include Uber, AbbVie, and Optomi, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's deep roster of consumer brands, major agency holding company offices, and large retail and financial services headquarters makes it one of the steadiest advertising hiring markets in the Midwest.
Which Illinois cities have the most advertising jobs?
The cities with the most advertising openings in Illinois are Chicago, Peoria, and Rosemont. Chicago drives the overwhelming share of demand as home to global agency offices, Fortune 500 brand teams, and a dense media ecosystem, while suburban hubs like Schaumburg and Naperville add openings tied to corporate headquarters for major retailers and consumer goods companies headquartered along the I-90 and I-88 corridors.
Are there remote advertising jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 63% of advertising openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including copywriting, media planning, and digital strategy, is screen-based and deliverable from anywhere. Roles that involve live production, client presentations, or on-site agency collaboration are the most likely to remain fully in-person.
How can I get hired as a advertising in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a paid internship at a Chicago-area agency or brand team, which many Illinois employers use as a direct pipeline into full-time coordinator and associate roles. Large Illinois-based advertisers including Leo Burnett, DraftFCB, and major CPG brand divisions run structured internship and rotational programs designed for candidates without prior professional experience. Applying for junior media planner, marketing coordinator, or social media associate positions, which typically require only a portfolio or coursework samples rather than a full work history, is the most common lateral entry point for career changers.
Where can I find and apply to advertising jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to advertising jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across agencies, in-house brand teams, and media companies throughout the state. Search the roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that match.
