Assistant General Manager Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a assistant general manager in Vermont?
Most Vermont employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, hospitality management, or a related field, combined with progressive supervisory experience. Vermont does not require a state-issued license specifically for assistant general managers, but roles in food service typically require a Vermont ServSafe Food Manager certification, and certain healthcare administration roles may expect familiarity with Vermont Department of Health compliance standards. Building experience through department supervisor or shift manager roles at Vermont hotels, healthcare systems, or multi-unit retail chains is the most direct path.
Which companies hire assistant general managers in Vermont?
Companies currently hiring assistant general managers in Vermont include State of Vermont, Wendy's, and Crunch Fitness, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's hospitality and healthcare sectors consistently generate the most openings for this role statewide.
Which Vermont cities have the most assistant general manager jobs?
Waterbury, Newport, and Rutland have the most assistant general manager openings in Vermont. Burlington leads because of its concentration of hotels, restaurant groups, healthcare organizations, and retail chains, while Montpelier and Rutland support steady demand through state government-adjacent services, regional medical centers, and established retail and hospitality operators anchoring those communities.
Are there remote assistant general manager jobs in Vermont?
Yes, but they're rare. Assistant general manager work is inherently hands-on, requiring on-site oversight of staff, operations, and customer experience, which limits remote options significantly. About 0% of assistant general manager openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to involve back-office functions such as reporting, vendor coordination, or multi-unit oversight for regional or national brands with a Vermont footprint.
How can I get hired as a assistant general manager in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a department supervisor or assistant manager role within a Vermont employer that promotes internally. Large Vermont hospitality groups and the University of Vermont Medical Center regularly hire operations coordinators and floor supervisors who advance into assistant general manager roles over time. Earning a Vermont ServSafe Food Manager certification or a hospitality management certificate from Community College of Vermont strengthens a candidate's profile. Targeting multi-unit retail or food service chains operating in Vermont, where structured management training programs are common, gives candidates without prior GM-level experience the clearest route forward.
