Benefits Analyst Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a benefits analyst in Virginia?
Most Virginia employers require a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field as the baseline for a benefits analyst role. Virginia does not issue a state-specific license for benefits analysts, so the path to employment runs through nationally recognized credentials: the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation, the SHRM-CP, or the PHR. Gaining hands-on experience through HR coordinator or benefits administrator roles at Virginia's large healthcare systems, federal contractors, or financial institutions is the most direct route to advancement.
How much do benefits analysts make in Virginia?
Benefits analysts in Virginia earn a median of about $81,190 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $54,410 for the lowest 10% to over $136,030 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire benefits analysts in Virginia?
Employers hiring benefits analysts in Virginia right now include Airbus, Arclin, and Family Dollar, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors, major health systems, and financial services firms means demand for benefits analysts with compliance and plan administration experience is particularly consistent throughout the year.
Which Virginia cities have the most benefits analyst jobs?
Richmond, Herndon, and Norfolk account for the most benefits analyst openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia dominates due to its dense cluster of federal contractors and technology firms headquartered there, while Richmond draws volume from corporate headquarters in financial services and healthcare, and Virginia Beach reflects demand from the large military and defense employer base anchoring Hampton Roads.
Are there remote benefits analyst jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields, because benefits analysis is primarily desk-based, data-driven work that translates well to remote environments. About 67% of benefits analyst openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly employers in the state have adopted flexible arrangements for this function. Benefits compliance, reporting, and vendor management tasks are the duties most frequently performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a benefits analyst in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a benefits administrator or HR coordinator role, which Virginia's large healthcare networks and federal contractors hire for regularly and treat as a pipeline into analyst positions. Employers such as Inova Health System and large Northern Virginia contractors frequently bring on associates without deep benefits experience and train them on plan administration internally. Pursuing the SHRM-CP while working in a generalist HR role builds the credential that accelerates the move into a dedicated benefits function, and proficiency in Workday or ADP gives candidates a concrete, demonstrable edge in Virginia applications.
Where can I find and apply to benefits analyst jobs in Virginia?
