Benefits Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a benefits specialist in Texas?
Most Texas employers require a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field as the baseline entry point. Texas does not issue a state-specific license for benefits specialists, but the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and SHRM credentials are the most valued in this market. Gaining experience in HR generalist or payroll roles at Texas companies before specializing is a common and effective path.
How much do benefits specialists make in Texas?
Benefits specialists in Texas earn a median of about $74,800 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,570 for the lowest 10% to over $121,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire benefits specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring benefits specialists in Texas right now include AAON, ADP, and Aurora Energy Research Limited, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and large government contractors means demand for experienced benefits professionals remains consistent throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most benefits specialist jobs?
Austin, Bellaire, and Coppell have the most benefits specialist openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of energy, healthcare, and petrochemical employers with large benefit-eligible workforces, while Dallas draws heavily from financial services, retail, and technology headquarters, and Austin's rapid growth in tech and state government has pushed steady demand for benefits professionals there as well.
Are there remote benefits specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, because benefits administration is largely desk-based and digital. About 13% of benefits specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. Plan administration, vendor coordination, and compliance tasks are most commonly performed remotely, while open enrollment support and employee counseling often require at least some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a benefits specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a benefits coordinator or HR assistant role at a large Texas employer and building plan administration experience from there. Major Texas health systems, retailers like H-E-B, and state agencies regularly hire entry-level HR support staff who rotate through benefits functions. Completing the CEBS foundational courses or an SHRM-CP exam while working in an adjacent HR or payroll role signals commitment and gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to benefits specialist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to benefits specialist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
