Billing Specialist Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a billing specialist in New Jersey?
New Jersey does not require a state-issued license to work as a billing specialist, but employers consistently prefer candidates who hold a nationally recognized credential such as the Certified Professional Biller from the AAPC or the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist from AHIMA. Most entry-level candidates start with an associate degree in health information technology or a medical billing certificate from a New Jersey community college, then build hands-on experience through internships at local hospital systems or physician groups.
Which companies hire billing specialists in New Jersey?
Employers hiring billing specialists in New Jersey right now include Capital Health, Jobot, and Cox Automotive, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of large hospital networks, pharmaceutical headquarters, and insurance carriers means demand for billing specialists remains broad and steady across both the public and private sectors.
Which New Jersey cities have the most billing specialist jobs?
Princeton, Paramus, and Clifton have the most billing specialist openings in New Jersey right now. Newark anchors the market as the state's largest city with a dense cluster of hospital systems and insurance offices, while Edison and Parsippany draw strong demand from the pharmaceutical and professional services firms headquartered along the Route 1 and I-287 corridors.
Are there remote billing specialist jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields. Billing specialist work is largely desk-based and document-driven, making it well-suited to remote arrangements. About 24% of billing specialist openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly health systems and revenue cycle management firms have adopted flexible work models. Claims review, denial management, and insurance follow-up roles are the most commonly listed as fully remote.
How can I get hired as a billing specialist in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a billing coordinator or patient account representative role at a New Jersey hospital system or multispecialty practice, where on-the-job training is common. RWJBarnabas Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, and Atlantic Health System all post entry-level revenue cycle positions that do not require prior billing experience. Completing a medical billing certificate at a county community college and earning a Certified Professional Biller credential gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants with no credentials.
Where can I find and apply to billing specialist jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to billing specialist jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
