Job Summary
As a part-time Medical Billing Specialist, you’ll help keep healthcare claims accurate and moving through the billing cycle. You’ll review medical records, apply coding and billing knowledge, submit claims, and follow up on outstanding balances. Your careful work and clear communication will support patients and healthcare teams.
Duties
- Review medical records and enter accurate billing information using billing software and electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Apply International Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding, including ICD-9 and ICD-10, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding, and diagnosis-related group (DRG) knowledge as applicable.
- Submit and track healthcare claims, investigate denials, correct errors, and follow up on unpaid claims and medical collections.
- Respond to billing questions with professionalism and customer service; explain claim status and coordinate with patients, insurers, and medical office staff.
- Your impact: Accurate claims and timely follow-up help patients understand their bills and healthcare teams maintain an organized revenue cycle.
Qualifications
- Medical billing or medical coding experience is preferred; medical office experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of healthcare claims management, health insurance, medical terminology, and medical records.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and billing software; proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills, with a patient-focused approach to customer service.
Pay: $26.02 - $31.33 per hour
