Care Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a care manager in New York?
Most care manager roles in New York require either a registered nursing license issued by the New York State Education Department or a clinical social work license from the New York State Office of the Professions, depending on the employer's focus. A bachelor's or master's degree in nursing, social work, or a related field is the standard educational foundation. Many New York employers also expect candidates to pursue the Certified Case Manager credential through the Commission for Case Manager Certification after gaining clinical experience.
Which companies hire care managers in New York?
Employers hiring care managers in New York right now include Essen Health Care, Sun River Health, and Newark Wayne Community Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large integrated health systems and Medicaid managed care plans drive consistent year-round demand for care managers across the state.
Which New York cities have the most care manager jobs?
Bronx, Rochester, and Brooklyn have the most care manager openings in New York. New York City dominates volume because of its concentration of major health systems, managed care insurers, and community health organizations, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand through regional hospital networks and state agency health programs that are anchored in those metro areas.
Are there remote care manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because care managers frequently conduct in-person assessments, care transitions, and home visits. About 9% of care manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the portions of the role that can shift online. Utilization review, telephonic care coordination, and payer-side case management positions are the most likely to be offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a care manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a care coordinator or case management associate role at a large New York health system or managed care plan, where structured orientation programs exist for candidates with clinical backgrounds but limited case management experience. Northwell Health and NYC Health and Hospitals both run new-graduate and entry-level pathways that transition nurses or social workers into care management. Completing a supervised clinical practicum in a hospital or community health center, or moving laterally from a discharge planning or utilization review position, are the most common doors in. Holding a New York RN or LMSW license gives candidates a clear edge over those without a state credential.
Where can I find and apply to care manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to care manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
