Certified Medical Assistant Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified medical assistant in Montana?
Montana does not issue a state-issued medical assistant license, so the path to employment runs through national certification. Most Montana employers require or strongly prefer a Certified Medical Assistant credential from the American Association of Medical Assistants or a Registered Medical Assistant credential from American Medical Technologists, earned by completing an accredited program and passing the respective exam. Community colleges such as Flathead Valley Community College and Montana State University affiliates offer accredited medical assisting programs that prepare candidates for these credentials.
Which companies hire certified medical assistants in Montana?
Companies currently hiring certified medical assistants in Montana include Benefis Health System, St. Peter's Health, and Community Medical Center, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's dominant health systems and federally qualified health centers are typically the most consistent source of full-time openings with structured benefits.
Which Montana cities have the most certified medical assistant jobs?
Great Falls, Helena, and Havre lead Montana for certified medical assistant openings. Billings generates the highest volume as home to Billings Clinic, one of the largest healthcare systems in the region, while Missoula's concentration of University of Montana-affiliated clinics and Providence facilities drives strong demand, and Great Falls benefits from Benefis Health System anchoring a broad network of outpatient and specialty practices.
Are there remote certified medical assistant jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. Certified medical assisting is a hands-on clinical role, so most positions require in-person patient contact. About 0% of certified medical assistant openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those that do qualify tend to involve telehealth intake coordination, remote patient monitoring support, or administrative clinical documentation rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a certified medical assistant in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited medical assisting program and applying directly to Montana health systems that run new-graduate or extern pipelines, such as Billings Clinic and Benefis Health System, which regularly bring on candidates fresh from accredited programs. Candidates coming from adjacent roles like certified nursing assistant, patient care technician, or medical receptionist often transition into certified medical assistant positions once they complete their credentialing. Holding a current CMA or RMA credential and a valid BLS certification significantly improves a new candidate's standing in Montana hiring pools.
Where can I find and apply to certified medical assistant jobs in Montana?
