Civil Project Manager Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a civil project manager in Indiana?
The standard path in Indiana starts with a civil engineering or construction management degree followed by gaining licensure as a Professional Engineer through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, which requires passing the FE and PE exams. Most Indiana firms expect candidates to accumulate field experience as a project engineer before moving into a PM role. A PMP certification strengthens applications for larger firms managing INDOT or municipal contracts.
How much do civil project managers make in Indiana?
Civil project managers in Indiana earn a median of about $95,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,120 for the lowest 10% to over $149,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire civil project managers in Indiana?
Indiana civil project manager roles are posted by GF transport, V3 Companies, and VS ENGINEERING and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Indiana's active transportation and municipal infrastructure programs mean engineering and construction firms of all sizes maintain ongoing hiring for experienced project managers across the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most civil project manager jobs?
Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Carmel consistently post the most civil project manager openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the largest share through its scale as the state capital and its concentration of engineering firms, INDOT-funded corridor projects, and private development, while Fort Wayne and South Bend generate steady demand from regional infrastructure programs and manufacturing-adjacent site development.
Are there remote civil project manager jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 60% of civil project manager openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which reflects how site-dependent this role fundamentally is. The portions most likely to be done remotely are pre-construction planning, project controls, and reporting, while field coordination, inspections, and contractor meetings remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a civil project manager in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a project engineer or field engineer role with a firm that holds INDOT or municipal contracts, since Indiana's public infrastructure programs create consistent entry-level openings. Large Indiana contractors and regional engineering firms often bring in new graduates from Purdue, Indiana University, or Rose-Hulman for engineer-in-training positions. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam early and building a portfolio of internship or co-op field work gives candidates a clear edge when applying to PM-track roles.
Where can I find and apply to civil project manager jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to civil project manager jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to whichever ones fit.
