Align your resume to process nodes
Applied Materials Manufacturing Engineer postings frequently reference CVD, PVD, or etch process experience tied to specific technology nodes. Tailor your resume to mirror that language exactly, not generic manufacturing terms, before applying.
Target sites with active equipment ramp-ups
Applied Materials hires Manufacturing Engineers heavily at sites undergoing new equipment qualifications or capacity expansions. Research which facilities are in active ramp phases using press releases and earnings calls, then filter your applications to those locations.
Secure OPT authorization before your offer deadline
F-1 OPT approval from USCIS takes up to 90 days. Apply as early as DSO rules allow so your Employment Authorization Document arrives before Applied Materials needs your start date confirmed.
Understand how PERM affects your engineering level
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, Applied Materials must complete PERM labor certification through DOL. The job duties filed in your PERM must match your actual role, so confirm your offer letter language aligns with the position description before the process starts.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open roles by visa type
Manufacturing Engineer openings at Applied Materials span multiple visa categories, and availability shifts by quarter. Search Migrate Mate to filter current openings by the sponsorship type that matches your situation before reaching out to recruiters.
Prepare a degree equivalency assessment early
H-1B specialty occupation petitions require a direct nexus between your degree field and the Manufacturing Engineer role. If your degree is in a adjacent field like physics or materials science, obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before your employer files Form I-129.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Applied Materials sponsor H-1B visas for Manufacturing Engineers?
Yes. Applied Materials sponsors H-1B visas for Manufacturing Engineer roles and has done so consistently across its U.S. facilities. The company also sponsors H-1B1 visas for eligible Australian and Singaporean nationals. Sponsorship is handled through Applied Materials' in-house immigration team, so the process is structured rather than ad hoc, which reduces delays once an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Applied Materials commonly use for Manufacturing Engineer roles?
Applied Materials sponsors a range of visa categories for Manufacturing Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students still in or recently graduated from U.S. programs, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for candidates pursuing permanent residence. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in the immigration process.
How do I apply for Manufacturing Engineer jobs at Applied Materials?
Applications go through Applied Materials' careers portal. Search by role title and filter by location, since Manufacturing Engineer openings are concentrated at sites in California, Texas, and Oregon. Migrate Mate aggregates current openings filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it faster to identify roles that match your authorization status before you apply directly through Applied Materials' site.
What qualifications does Applied Materials look for in Manufacturing Engineer candidates requiring sponsorship?
Most Manufacturing Engineer roles at Applied Materials require a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, or chemical engineering. Hands-on experience with semiconductor equipment, process characterization, or yield improvement is weighted heavily. For H-1B purposes, your degree must directly relate to the specific engineering function in the role, not just to engineering broadly.
How do I time my H-1B filing if I receive a Manufacturing Engineer offer from Applied Materials?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date, with USCIS registration opening in March. If you receive an offer outside that window, Applied Materials may bridge your status using OPT, a TN, or another available category until the next H-1B cycle. Confirm your current status expiration date immediately after receiving an offer so there's enough runway to file without a gap.
