Align your credentials to CDW's vendor certifications
CDW partners heavily with Cisco, Microsoft, and VMware. Before applying, earn or renew certifications in those ecosystems. Hiring managers treat vendor badges as evidence you can bill against enterprise accounts from day one.
Target CDW's vertical-specific Solution Engineer postings
CDW segments Solution Engineers by vertical, including healthcare, government, and higher education. Applying to a vertical where your prior work experience is documented makes the specialty occupation argument for H-1B petitions significantly cleaner.
Confirm your OPT or CPT start date against CDW's hiring cycle
CDW's enterprise sales cycles influence when Solution Engineer headcount opens. If you're on F-1 OPT, map your authorization window to Q1 or Q3 hiring pushes so your work authorization doesn't expire mid-onboarding.
Request an LCA review before accepting your offer
CDW files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition. Verify the prevailing wage listed on the LCA reflects the Solution Engineer role's actual level, since underclaiming a level can create complications at renewal.
Use Migrate Mate to surface CDW's open Solution Engineer roles
CDW posts Solution Engineer positions across multiple verticals and regions at the same time. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for CDW roles that align with your visa type so you're not manually tracking a high-volume posting environment.
Prepare a technical portfolio demonstrating pre-sales outcomes
CDW Solution Engineers are evaluated on their ability to scope and close deals, not just configure solutions. Document specific architectures you've proposed and the business outcomes they produced before you reach the offer stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CDW sponsor H-1B visas for Solution Engineers?
Yes, CDW sponsors H-1B visas for Solution Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. CDW handles the employer-side filing, including the DOL Labor Condition Application and the USCIS I-129 petition, but you'll need to clear the annual H-1B lottery unless you already hold cap-exempt status.
How do I apply for Solution Engineer jobs at CDW?
Applications go through CDW's careers portal, where Solution Engineer roles are segmented by vertical and region. Tailoring your resume to emphasize pre-sales experience and vendor certifications relevant to CDW's partner ecosystem significantly improves your chances of clearing the initial screen. Migrate Mate aggregates CDW's open Solution Engineer postings in one place, which is useful when roles across multiple verticals are posted simultaneously.
Which visa types does CDW commonly use for Solution Engineer roles?
CDW sponsors H-1B visas for most internationally hired Solution Engineers and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students transitioning directly from academic programs. For candidates pursuing permanent residency, CDW has used the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card pathways, which involve PERM labor certification through DOL before USCIS adjudicates the immigrant petition. TN visa status is also an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles.
What qualifications does CDW expect for Solution Engineer positions?
CDW typically looks for a bachelor's degree in a technical discipline alongside hands-on experience with enterprise IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, or cybersecurity. Strong pre-sales or customer-facing technical experience carries significant weight because Solution Engineers at CDW are expected to scope solutions and support account executives during the sales cycle. Vendor certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, or VMware are frequently referenced in postings and strengthen both your application and the specialty occupation basis for visa sponsorship.
How do I time my H-1B filing if I'm currently on F-1 OPT at CDW?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March each year, with an October 1 cap-subject start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer needs to register you in that March window. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you have a STEM OPT extension, you may be covered by the 240-day cap-gap rule, which lets you continue working while the petition is pending. Confirm your I-94 expiration date and OPT end date with CDW's HR team well before the March registration window opens.
