Align your credentials to KSU's requirements
KSU Teaching Assistant roles typically require enrollment in or completion of a relevant graduate program. Confirm your transcript reflects the subject area of the department you're targeting, since mismatches between your field of study and the assigned course can complicate H-1B specialty occupation filings.
Target departments with active graduate programs
KSU's larger colleges, including Business, Education, and Computing, run substantial graduate programs with recurring TA demand. Reaching out directly to graduate coordinators in these departments can surface openings before they're posted publicly, especially for the following academic semester.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline before applying
If you're on F-1 status, confirm whether the role qualifies under your authorized field before accepting. CPT requires enrollment, so semester-long TA contracts fit cleanly, but gaps between semesters can interrupt your work authorization if you're not re-enrolled or on post-completion OPT.
Understand the H-1B cap-exempt advantage at KSU
As a public university, KSU is a cap-exempt employer for H-1B purposes, meaning petitions aren't subject to the annual lottery. You and KSU can file at any point in the year, which removes the timing pressure most H-1B candidates face at private companies.
Confirm PERM labor market test requirements early
If your goal is long-term sponsorship toward an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, KSU's HR team will need to run a PERM-compliant recruitment process through the DOL before filing. Starting this conversation during your offer negotiation, not after your first contract ends, avoids delays.
Use Migrate Mate to find open TA roles at KSU
Teaching Assistant postings at KSU can be scattered across departmental pages and the main careers portal. Use Migrate Mate to filter KSU's open TA positions by visa type, so you can prioritize applications to roles already flagged for sponsorship eligibility.

Find Teaching Assistant at Kennesaw State University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kennesaw State University sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching Assistants?
Yes. As a public university, KSU is a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means Teaching Assistant petitions can be filed year-round without going through the annual lottery. This is a meaningful advantage for international candidates, since private-sector employers are subject to the cap and the randomized selection process. KSU's international faculty and staff office handles the institutional filing process on behalf of sponsored employees.
How do I apply for Teaching Assistant jobs at Kennesaw State University?
Applications are typically submitted through KSU's official careers portal, but individual departments, particularly graduate programs in Business, Computing, and the College of Education, sometimes post TA openings separately. You can browse Teaching Assistant roles at KSU filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which consolidates postings and surfaces roles actively open to international candidates.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching Assistant roles at Kennesaw State University?
The most common pathways for Teaching Assistants at KSU are H-1B (cap-exempt as a public university), J-1 (commonly used for exchange scholars and visiting instructors), F-1 OPT and CPT (for current international students in qualifying degree programs), and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible education-related occupations. Longer-term candidates may pursue EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship through the PERM process.
What qualifications does KSU expect for Teaching Assistant roles?
Most TA positions at KSU require active enrollment in a relevant graduate program or a completed master's degree in the subject area being taught. Departmental expectations vary: STEM and computing roles often require demonstrated technical coursework, while humanities and education departments weigh instructional experience more heavily. For H-1B purposes, the degree field must directly correlate with the duties of the role to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How long does visa sponsorship take for a Teaching Assistant position at KSU?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 CPT authorization can be processed within a few weeks through KSU's international student office before a semester begins. H-1B petitions at cap-exempt institutions like KSU are typically adjudicated by USCIS within three to five months under standard processing, or faster with premium processing. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship involves a DOL labor market test that can take six months or more before the immigrant petition is even filed.
