Align Your Credentials to KSU's Research Areas
KSU houses research centers across STEM, health sciences, and the humanities. Before applying, confirm your academic background and any publications or grants directly match the department's active research focus, since sponsorship decisions at universities often hinge on disciplinary fit.
Understand Which Visa Fits Your Situation
KSU sponsors multiple visa types for Research roles, including H-1B, J-1, TN, and OPT extensions. J-1 is common for visiting scholars and postdocs, while H-1B applies to longer-term research staff. Know which category fits your role before the offer conversation starts.
Request a Sponsorship Confirmation Before Negotiating Salary
University research positions sometimes separate HR decisions from international scholar services. Ask KSU's Office of International Affairs to confirm sponsorship eligibility for your specific role and title before you enter salary negotiations or accept any written offer.
Factor PERM Timelines Into Your Long-Term Plan
If your goal is permanent residence through EB-2 or EB-3, PERM labor certification at universities can take 18 to 24 months or longer. Start that conversation with KSU's international office early, since tenure-track and long-term research staff positions are the most viable pathways.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Research Roles at KSU
Research positions at universities get filled quickly, and not all are posted on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to browse currently open Research roles at Kennesaw State University that are verified to come with visa sponsorship, so you're not applying blind.
Prepare Documentation for OPT or CPT Roles Before Applying
KSU does hire F-1 students for research positions on OPT and CPT, but your DSO must authorize employment before your start date. Have your EAD and program authorization documents ready when you accept an offer, since delays here can push back your start date significantly.

Find Research at Kennesaw State University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kennesaw State University sponsor H-1B visas for Researchs?
Yes, Kennesaw State University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Research roles. As a public university, KSU qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, which means H-1B petitions can be filed at any time of year without waiting for the annual lottery. This is a significant advantage for researchers who need to start or transition quickly without aligning to the April 1 filing window.
How do I apply for Research jobs at Kennesaw State University?
Open Research positions at KSU are posted through the university's official careers portal. For roles verified to include visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate also lists current openings at KSU so you can filter specifically for sponsored Research positions. When applying, tailor your CV to highlight relevant research output, grants, and any departmental alignment with KSU's active research programs.
Which visa types does Kennesaw State University commonly use for Research roles?
KSU sponsors a range of visa categories for Research positions depending on role type and career stage. H-1B is used for longer-term research staff in specialty occupations. J-1 is common for postdoctoral researchers and visiting scholars. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying research roles. F-1 OPT and CPT cover students in research appointments tied to their degree programs.
What qualifications are expected for sponsored Research roles at Kennesaw State University?
Most sponsored Research roles at KSU require at minimum a master's degree, with doctoral qualifications expected for principal investigator or senior researcher positions. Strong publication records, grant-writing experience, and alignment with an existing KSU research center or faculty project significantly strengthen your candidacy. For H-1B eligibility specifically, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field.
How do I handle the timing between finishing a prior visa status and starting at KSU?
If you're transitioning from OPT, a prior H-1B employer, or a J-1 program, timing the gap carefully matters. Cap-exempt employers like KSU can file H-1B change-of-status petitions at any point, giving you flexibility. However, if your current status expires before USCIS approves the petition, you may need to leave the U.S. and reenter on the new visa. Raise this scenario with KSU's Office of International Affairs as early as possible in the hiring process.
