As Microsoft pushes the boundaries of what AI can do, we’re searching for passionate builders ready to tackle the most exciting and complex challenges of our time. Our vision is bold: create true artificial intelligence across agents, applications, services, and infrastructure — and make it accessible to everyone.

Align your portfolio to Microsoft's engineering culture
Microsoft's hiring bar for Product Engineering Managers emphasizes systems thinking and cross-functional ownership. Document shipped products, team scaling decisions, and measurable engineering outcomes before applying. Interviewers assess depth over breadth.
Target teams with multi-year sponsorship history
Microsoft's Azure, M365, and AI Platform orgs file LCAs with the DOL consistently across engineering management roles. Prioritize job postings from these divisions since their sponsorship pipelines are well-established and hiring managers are familiar with the process.
Get your credentials evaluated before final interviews
If your engineering degree is from outside the U.S., a NACES-recognized credential evaluation confirming U.S. equivalency removes a common bottleneck during USCIS adjudication of your H-1B petition. Have this ready before offer negotiation begins.
Clarify visa type eligibility during the offer stage
Microsoft sponsors both H-1B and E-3 visas for engineering management roles. If you're an Australian citizen, the E-3 has no lottery and allows faster processing. Raise your visa category preference with the recruiting team before they initiate the LCA filing with DOL.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline before accepting
If you need a new H-1B and aren't cap-exempt, USCIS registration opens in March with an October 1 start date. Build this window into your negotiation so your start date and employment authorization align without a gap.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by sponsorship
Microsoft posts Product Engineering Manager roles across multiple portals simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter exclusively for Microsoft positions that include visa sponsorship, so you're targeting live openings where the team has already committed to sponsoring.

Find Product Engineering Manager at Microsoft JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Microsoft sponsor H-1B visas for Product Engineering Managers?
Yes, Microsoft sponsors H-1B visas for Product Engineering Manager roles. Microsoft is a registered E-Verify employer and works with in-house immigration counsel to handle LCA filings with the DOL and I-129 petitions with USCIS. If you're subject to the H-1B cap and lottery, your start date would be October 1 of the cap year. Cap-exempt situations, such as transferring from a current H-1B, allow faster timelines.
Which visa types does Microsoft commonly use for Product Engineering Manager roles?
Microsoft sponsors H-1B visas for most international candidates in this role. Australian citizens can use the E-3, which skips the lottery entirely and is processed through consular channels or as a change of status. For longer-term pathways, Microsoft supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, typically initiated after you've established your performance track record internally. The right visa type depends on your nationality and current immigration status.
What qualifications and experience does Microsoft expect for Product Engineering Manager candidates?
Microsoft typically looks for a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, with a master's preferred for senior-level roles. You'll need demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, managing roadmaps, and owning delivery across complex technical systems. Familiarity with cloud architecture, particularly Azure, and cross-functional collaboration with product and design teams are commonly assessed competencies in the interview loop.
How do I apply for Product Engineering Manager jobs at Microsoft?
Applications go through Microsoft's careers portal, but roles fill quickly and some postings don't clearly indicate sponsorship availability upfront. Migrate Mate filters Microsoft's open Product Engineering Manager positions by visa sponsorship so you can identify confirmed opportunities without manually screening each listing. Once you apply, Microsoft's process typically includes a recruiter screen, technical and behavioral interviews, and a hiring manager loop before an offer is extended.
How do I plan my timeline if Microsoft is sponsoring my H-1B for this role?
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS opens registration in early March and selects registrations by late March. Your employment can't begin until October 1. Microsoft's recruiting and immigration teams are experienced with this timeline, but you'll want to start the interview process by late fall of the prior year. If you're transferring an existing H-1B from another employer, you can start as soon as USCIS receives the new petition, which removes the October 1 constraint entirely.
