Frame your retail leadership experience precisely
Nordstrom evaluates Business Managers on measurable outcomes: team development, sales floor productivity, and operational execution. Quantify your results in these areas before applying so your resume speaks directly to how the role is scoped internally.
Target store formats that match your background
Nordstrom operates full-line stores, Nordstrom Rack, and Local service hubs, each with different operational scopes. Applying to locations that match your prior retail format improves your fit signal and increases the likelihood of advancing to a sponsorship conversation.
Clarify sponsorship readiness before your final interview
Nordstrom's HR team handles visa sponsorship through corporate, not individual stores. Confirm that the specific Business Manager opening is approved for sponsorship at the requisition level before investing time in final-round interviews.
Understand how TN status applies to your situation
Canadian and Mexican nationals should verify whether a Business Manager role qualifies under a TN-eligible USMCA category before assuming it will. Not all management titles meet DOL's specialty occupation criteria for TN classification, and a misclassified filing creates costly delays.
Use OPT strategically to build Nordstrom-relevant credentials
If you're on F-1 OPT, use your authorized work period in a retail operations or merchandising role to build the store management track record Nordstrom expects at the Business Manager level before a formal H-1B sponsorship request becomes necessary.
Find open Business Manager roles on Migrate Mate
Filtering for sponsorship-confirmed retail employers saves significant research time. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Business Manager openings at Nordstrom filtered by the visa types your status requires before reaching out to recruiters directly.

Find Business Manager at Nordstrom JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Nordstrom sponsor H-1B visas for Business Managers?
Yes, Nordstrom sponsors H-1B visas for Business Manager roles. The company files petitions through its corporate HR function rather than at the individual store level. Because H-1B subject to the annual cap requires lottery selection each April, your offer timing matters. Roles that qualify as cap-exempt or involve an internal transfer follow a different filing path.
How do I apply for Business Manager jobs at Nordstrom?
Applications go through Nordstrom's careers portal, where Business Manager roles are listed by location and store format. Before applying, confirm the posting is open to visa sponsorship candidates, as not every requisition is approved for it. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate to identify the right roles before submitting.
Which visa types does Nordstrom commonly use for Business Manager roles?
Nordstrom sponsors H-1B visas as its primary nonimmigrant pathway for Business Managers and also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates earlier in their careers. For longer-term employment, the company has filed EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the PERM labor certification process. Canadian and Mexican nationals may also explore the TN visa if the role meets DOL eligibility criteria.
What qualifications does Nordstrom expect for a sponsored Business Manager?
Nordstrom typically looks for a bachelor's degree in business, retail management, or a related field, combined with demonstrated experience managing sales teams and store operations. For visa sponsorship purposes, the degree must align with the role's specialty occupation classification under USCIS standards. Candidates with a background in inventory management, workforce planning, or multi-department oversight tend to clear that bar most cleanly.
How do I time my application given H-1B processing timelines?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. That means you need an offer in hand by early spring to enter the lottery for that cycle. If you miss the window or aren't selected, options include remaining on OPT if eligible, or exploring whether a cap-exempt filing is available. Build at least six months of lead time into your job search.
