Tailor your CV for U.S. academic standards
U.S. faculty CVs differ from international formats. Include your full publication record, teaching philosophy, and grant history. Sam Houston State hiring committees evaluate these directly when assessing H-1B specialty occupation eligibility for Professor roles.
Target departments with recurring faculty openings
Sam Houston State posts Professor openings across a broad range of colleges. Focusing on departments that hire cyclically, such as Criminal Justice, Education, or Business, increases your odds of landing a role with established sponsorship infrastructure.
Confirm sponsorship support before accepting an offer
Before signing your offer letter, ask the department coordinator whether the university's Office of International Programs will handle your H-1B petition directly or require you to arrange outside counsel. This affects your filing timeline and start date.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Professor openings by sponsorship
Browsing all Sam Houston State postings manually is time-consuming. Use Migrate Mate to filter Professor roles by visa sponsorship type, so you only apply to positions where H-1B or J-1 support is confirmed upfront.

As a nonprofit university, Sam Houston State qualifies for cap-exempt H-1B petitions. If you already hold H-1B status at another institution, your new petition can be filed at any time and you can start as soon as USCIS issues a receipt notice under portability rules.
