Who we are
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.
Working at Samsara means you'll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that's shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you'll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role:
Samsara is seeking a highly entrepreneurial and strategic Principal Product Manager to lead our Worker Safety initiative. This is a critical "zero-to-one" opportunity to take an early-access product and define its long-term market position. You will act as the single-threaded owner, providing the core strategy and market fit that this initiative needs to transition to a fully scalable business solution.
The ideal candidate is a relentless problem-solver—someone who can navigate an unscripted roadmap, engage directly with customers, and quantify the business opportunity with first-principles thinking.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US.
You should apply if:
- Customer Discovery & Immersion: Conduct intensive customer research onsite with our clientele. Learn their business to determine the go forward strategy of this product area.
- Value Distillation: Translate complex customer feedback into a clear value proposition, identifying the specific financial "prize" and ROI associated with solving worker safety challenges.
- Roadmap Architecture: Bridge the gap between firmware engineering and software execution to define and deliver the "Version 2" product roadmap.
- Strategic Leadership: Evaluate the broader market landscape to determine Samsara's long-term "right to win" in this sector.
- AI-Driven Prototyping: Leverage AI tools and creative visualizations to build demos and iterate on product concepts at high velocity.
In this role, you will:
- Customer discovery and market validation through launch and scale.
- Conduct deep market and user research to uncover unmet needs in physical operations and translate them into differentiated product opportunities.
- Define and communicate a compelling product vision and roadmap that balances customer value, technical feasibility, and business impact.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and design to build full-stack solutions, leveraging your technical understanding to make tradeoffs and accelerate delivery.
- Partner with go-to-market teams (sales, customer success, marketing) to win strategic deals, scale adoption, and inform future product direction.
- Establish success metrics, track performance, and iterate quickly to ensure products deliver measurable impact for customers and revenue growth for Samsara.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team).
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Experience: 8+ years of Product Management experience, with a track record of success in high-growth, scrappy environments.
- Zero-to-One Mindset: Proven ability to build products from the ground up where no playbook exists.
- Analytical Rigor: Exceptional first-principles thinking and the ability to quantify market opportunities and prioritize engineering directions based on conviction.
- Communication: Strong ability to "pitch" a vision to internal stakeholders and external customers alike.
- Technical Literacy: While a hardware background is not required, the candidate must be comfortable working closely with firmware engineers and technical teams.
Total Rewards
At Samsara, we build for the people who keep the global economy moving. We want owners, not passengers, which is why our rewards are designed to fuel high-impact builders. Our compensation program delivers above-market total compensation through a combination of base salary, performance-based bonus/variable pay, and equity (for eligible roles) in a high-growth public company. We meaningfully differentiate pay for our top performers, who have the opportunity to earn above-market compensation that can outpace the broader market over time.
Beyond compensation, we provide the foundations that enable long-term success: a flexible, employee-led remote model, a professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, and more. If you're ready to build for the long term and own the outcome, your journey starts here.
Flexible Working
At Samsara, we embrace a flexible working model that caters to the diverse needs of our teams. Our offices are open for those who prefer to work in-person and we also support remote work where it aligns with our operational requirements. For certain positions, being close to one of our offices or within a specific geographic area is important to facilitate collaboration, access to resources, or alignment with our service regions. In these cases, the job description will clearly indicate any working location requirements. Our goal is to ensure that all members of our team can contribute effectively, whether they are working on-site, in a hybrid model, or fully remotely. All offers of employment are contingent upon an individual's ability to secure and maintain the legal right to work at the company and in the specified work location, if applicable.
Belonging at Samsara
At Samsara, we welcome everyone regardless of their background. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, and other characteristics protected by law. We depend on the unique approaches of our team members to help us solve complex problems and want to ensure that Samsara is a place where people from all backgrounds can make an impact.

Align your credentials to hardware development
Samsara builds physical IoT devices, so a resume that highlights firmware, embedded systems, or connected hardware programs positions you far more competitively than general software development experience. Frame your leadership in terms of hardware delivery cycles.
Target Samsara's fleet operations product lines
Development Manager openings cluster around Samsara's core vehicle telematics and industrial tracking products. Tailoring applications to those specific lines signals domain fit and reduces the likelihood of rejection on grounds of role misalignment during H-1B filing review.
Negotiate your offer before the H-1B filing window
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If your offer comes after a January lottery registration, verify your start date is structured to fall within the October fiscal year to avoid a 12-month gap in authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Development Manager roles
Many sponsoring roles at companies like Samsara are not labeled explicitly as visa-friendly. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship openings and identify which positions are actively hiring, so you're applying to live requisitions rather than stale postings.
Prepare a PERM-ready employment history record
If Samsara initiates a PERM-based Green Card process for your role, DOL requires a detailed audit of your prior positions and duties. Maintain organized documentation of past employment now to avoid delays when your employer's immigration counsel begins the prevailing wage determination.

Does Samsara sponsor H-1B visas for Development Managers?
Yes, Samsara sponsors H-1B visas for Development Manager roles. The company has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for engineering and technical leadership positions, which Development Manager roles typically fall under. If you're in the H-1B lottery cycle, confirm your offer timing aligns with the April 1 filing deadline and October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Development Manager jobs at Samsara?
You can apply directly through Samsara's careers page, where Development Manager roles are listed by product area and location. For a filtered view of open roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate lets you browse verified Development Manager positions at Samsara without sorting through postings that don't sponsor. Tailor your application to Samsara's IoT and fleet intelligence product lines for the strongest fit signal.
Which visa types does Samsara commonly use for Development Manager roles?
Samsara sponsors across multiple visa categories for this function, including H-1B, F-1 OPT and STEM OPT, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, J-1 in specific cases, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. Development Manager roles, being classified as specialty occupations in engineering or technical management, are generally well-suited for H-1B and PERM-based Green Card filings.
What qualifications does Samsara expect for a Development Manager with visa sponsorship?
Samsara's Development Manager roles in the Electronics and Hardware space typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field, along with demonstrated experience managing hardware or embedded systems development programs. Leadership experience overseeing cross-functional teams through full product development cycles, including prototyping through production, is a consistent expectation across their open roles.
How do I plan my timeline if Samsara sponsors my H-1B as a Development Manager?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March, with cap-subject petitions filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If selected, your employer files the full petition after lottery selection. Premium processing reduces USCIS adjudication to 15 business days. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, coordinate your OPT expiration date against the October start to avoid an authorization gap between status periods.
