Verify Your Credentials Before Applying
Select Medical requires state licensure and NBCOT certification before you can work as an OT. Start the credential evaluation and state licensure process early, delays here are the most common reason offers fall through, not sponsorship refusals.
Target Outpatient Clinics Over Acute Settings
Select Medical's outpatient rehabilitation network tends to post higher OT volumes than its acute care hospitals. Roles in outpatient settings often have more scheduling flexibility, which can simplify the LCA prevailing wage documentation your employer files with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Active OT Openings
Select Medical posts OT roles across multiple states, and tracking which locations are actively hiring is time-consuming. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Select Medical Occupational Therapist positions that support visa sponsorship, so you're targeting live openings rather than stale listings.
Ask Recruiters About Internal Sponsorship Timelines
Select Medical's HR process moves through regional recruiters, not a central immigration team. Ask your recruiter directly whether the specific facility has sponsored OTs before and whether they work with an outside immigration counsel, since facility-level experience varies.
Understand the H-1B Cap and Filing Window
Healthcare employers like Select Medical file H-1B petitions subject to the annual USCIS cap, with registrations opening in March for an October 1 start date. If you miss the lottery cycle, negotiate a conditional start date or explore cap-exempt facility affiliations within their network.
Position EB-3 as a Long-Term Track Early
OT roles typically qualify under EB-3 for skilled workers, and PERM labor certification can begin while you're on H-1B status. Raise the green card pathway with your hiring contact before you sign an offer so both timelines are documented from the start.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Select Medical sponsor H-1B visas for Occupational Therapists?
Yes, Select Medical has sponsored H-1B visas for Occupational Therapists. Sponsorship is handled at the facility or regional level, so availability can vary by location. Your best approach is to confirm sponsorship willingness directly with the recruiter for the specific clinic or hospital you're applying to, and to ask early in the process rather than after an offer is extended.
How do I apply for Occupational Therapist jobs at Select Medical?
You can search for Occupational Therapist openings directly on Select Medical's careers site or browse visa-sponsoring OT roles through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions open to sponsored candidates. When you apply, have your NBCOT certification, state licensure status, and a copy of your credential evaluation ready, as Select Medical recruiters typically screen for these before moving forward.
Which visa types are commonly used for Occupational Therapist roles at Select Medical?
The H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for OTs at Select Medical because the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy. For permanent residence, the EB-3 skilled worker category is the standard pathway, initiated through PERM labor certification filed with DOL. Some internationally trained OTs also enter on TN visa status if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and meet the qualifying criteria.
What qualifications does Select Medical expect from Occupational Therapist candidates?
Select Medical expects candidates to hold a master's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program, active NBCOT certification, and a valid state license in the state where the role is located. For internationally trained OTs, a credential evaluation confirming equivalency to U.S. degree standards is required. Clinical experience in rehabilitation or post-acute care settings is a strong differentiator for roles within their hospital and outpatient rehab network.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an OT position at Select Medical?
For H-1B sponsorship, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL first, which typically takes one to two weeks when certified electronically. The H-1B petition then goes to USCIS, with standard processing taking three to six months or faster with premium processing. Factor in your state licensure timeline separately, since USCIS approval alone does not authorize you to practice until your license is in hand.
