Verify your credentials before applying
State licensure is non-negotiable for Therapist roles at Select Medical. Confirm your foreign therapy degree meets the requirements of the state where you're targeting a position, since license reciprocity varies and credential evaluation timelines can delay your start date.
Target outpatient and specialty rehab postings
Select Medical operates both inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and outpatient networks. Outpatient clinic roles often have more flexibility in start timing, which matters when your H-1B filing window or OPT expiration creates a hard deadline for your employer.
Ask recruiters about petition timing upfront
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. When you get a recruiter on the phone, ask directly whether the role can support a petition filed in time for the upcoming cap cycle, not after the fact.
Understand how PERM affects EB-2 and EB-3 timelines
If Select Medical offers EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, DOL's PERM labor certification comes first, which can take a year or more before USCIS even sees your petition. Factor this into your long-term status planning from the day you accept an offer.
Browse open Therapist roles on Migrate Mate
Select Medical posts Therapist openings across multiple states and specialties. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Select Medical positions flagged for visa sponsorship so you're targeting roles where the company has already indicated willingness to sponsor.
Negotiate specialty designation before signing
H-1B approval for Therapist roles depends on USCIS treating the position as a specialty occupation requiring a specific degree. Before you sign your offer letter, confirm the job description explicitly requires a bachelor's degree or higher in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or a directly related field.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Select Medical sponsor H-1B visas for Therapists?
Yes, Select Medical sponsors H-1B visas for Therapist roles. The company has filed H-1B petitions for therapy professionals across its rehabilitation hospitals and outpatient clinics. Sponsorship availability can vary by location and role, so confirm visa support directly with the recruiter when you receive an offer.
Which visa types does Select Medical commonly use for Therapist roles?
Select Medical sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visas for Therapists. H-1B is the most common path for initial work authorization. For permanent residency, the company has supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, which involves DOL PERM labor certification before USCIS adjudicates the immigrant petition.
What qualifications does Select Medical expect for sponsored Therapist positions?
You'll need a degree in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech-language pathology relevant to the role, plus an active state license in the state where you'll work. Some positions require clinical experience in rehabilitation or specialty settings. Foreign-educated applicants typically need a credential evaluation confirming U.S. degree equivalency before licensure.
How do I apply for Therapist jobs at Select Medical?
You can search and apply for Therapist openings at Select Medical through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles with confirmed visa sponsorship so you're not wasting time on positions that won't support your status. Once you apply, the process moves through a recruiter screen, clinical interviews, and a formal offer before the sponsorship paperwork begins.
How do I plan my timeline around H-1B filing for a Select Medical Therapist role?
H-1B cap-subject petitions open in March and must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, confirm whether your OPT expiration aligns with that timeline or whether you need a cap-gap extension to bridge the gap. Start conversations with Select Medical recruiters at least three to four months before the filing window opens.
