Verify your credential evaluation matches U.S. requirements
Before applying, confirm your physical therapy degree has been evaluated by a FCCPT or CGFNS-approved credentialing body. Select Medical's clinical hiring teams will expect licensure eligibility in the state where the position is located, so resolve any credential gaps before outreach.
Target Select Medical's outpatient rehabilitation network specifically
Select Medical operates both inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and outpatient physical therapy clinics under the Select Physical Therapy brand. Outpatient sites tend to cycle through openings more frequently, so filtering your search to that division narrows your focus to where volume hiring actually happens.
Ask recruiters directly about their PERM experience for PT roles
Physical Therapists pursuing a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3 require PERM labor certification filed through DOL. Ask Select Medical's talent team whether they have in-house immigration counsel or use outside counsel, since this signals how smoothly a sponsored hire typically moves through the process.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active PT openings at Select Medical
Sponsorship-eligible Physical Therapist roles at Select Medical don't always stay open long. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers and surface Select Medical PT positions before they close, so you're applying during the active window rather than to stale postings.
Time your application around your OPT or grace period window
If you're transitioning off OPT or inside a 60-day grace period after a prior role ends, an H-1B cap-exempt filing tied to a healthcare employer like Select Medical isn't automatic. Confirm with a USCIS-familiar immigration attorney whether your situation qualifies before accepting an offer contingent on status transfer.
Prepare your state PT license before the offer stage
Select Medical requires active state licensure as a condition of employment, not something you complete post-hire. Identify which states have compact licensure agreements and apply strategically to Select Medical locations in states where your licensure timeline is shortest to avoid losing an offer to delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Select Medical sponsor H-1B visas for Physical Therapists?
Yes, Select Medical sponsors H-1B visas for Physical Therapist roles. Physical Therapy qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines because the position typically requires at minimum a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. If you already hold H-1B status with another employer, Select Medical can file an H-1B transfer petition, allowing you to begin work once the transfer is filed rather than waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Physical Therapist jobs at Select Medical?
Applications go through Select Medical's careers portal, where you can filter by job type and location across their rehabilitation hospitals and Select Physical Therapy outpatient clinics. During the application, be transparent about your need for visa sponsorship so recruiters route you correctly from the start. Migrate Mate also aggregates sponsorship-verified Physical Therapist openings at Select Medical, which can help you identify active roles faster.
Which visa types does Select Medical commonly use for Physical Therapist hires?
Select Medical sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visa categories for Physical Therapists. H-1B is the primary nonimmigrant pathway for specialty occupation roles. For permanent residency, Select Medical has filed under EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa classifications, which require PERM labor certification through DOL before USCIS petition filing. The EB-3 category is particularly common for Physical Therapists given the consistent national shortage of licensed PTs.
What qualifications does Select Medical expect from Physical Therapist candidates?
Select Medical requires a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and active state licensure in the state where the position is located. Clinical experience in outpatient orthopedic or rehabilitative settings strengthens your application, particularly for senior or specialty roles. International graduates must also provide a credential evaluation from a FCCPT or equivalent CGFNS-approved body confirming their degree meets U.S. equivalency standards before licensure can be granted.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for a PT role at Select Medical?
For an H-1B transfer from an existing employer, work authorization can begin as soon as USCIS receives the petition, typically within a few weeks of filing. For a new H-1B cap-subject case, you'd need to clear the annual lottery with an April 1 earliest start date. EB-3 Green Card cases involving PERM labor certification average 12 to 18 months for DOL review alone, before USCIS petition and consular or adjustment steps begin.
