Verify your CMA credential transfers correctly
Foreign medical training doesn't automatically satisfy U.S. credentialing requirements. Confirm your certification aligns with AAMA or AMT standards before applying, since Select Medical's clinical hiring teams screen for recognized U.S. credentials early in the process.
Target outpatient rehab locations specifically
Select Medical's open Medical Assistant roles are concentrated in its outpatient rehabilitation network. Filtering applications to these sites improves your match rate, since their staffing needs and sponsorship willingness differ from the acute specialty hospital side of the business.
Confirm sponsorship intent before your first interview
Ask the recruiter directly whether the specific facility is approved to initiate an H-1B or employment-based Green Card petition. Regional clinic managers sometimes have different budget authority than corporate HR, so confirming early prevents wasted time on roles that won't sponsor.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline for clinical roles
Medical Assistant positions at for-profit employers like Select Medical are subject to the H-1B annual cap and lottery. USCIS opens registration each March, so time your job search and offer negotiations to align with that window rather than expecting year-round filing.
Gather state-required clinical documentation proactively
Select Medical operates across multiple states, each with distinct Medical Assistant scope-of-practice rules. Compile your immunization records, background check clearances, and any state-mandated training certificates before receiving an offer to avoid delays in the USCIS petition process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring locations
Not every Select Medical site sponsors visas at the same rate. Use Migrate Mate to identify and apply to the specific Medical Assistant openings at Select Medical that have an active sponsorship track record, so you focus your effort where it counts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Select Medical sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Assistants?
Yes, Select Medical has sponsored H-1B visas for Medical Assistant roles. Because Select Medical is a for-profit employer, these petitions go through the annual H-1B cap and lottery process run by USCIS. Sponsorship availability can vary by facility and region, so confirming with the specific hiring location during the interview stage is the practical first step.
How do I apply for Medical Assistant jobs at Select Medical?
You can browse and apply for Medical Assistant positions at Select Medical directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship has been offered. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight clinical support experience, patient-facing duties, and any U.S.-recognized certifications like CMA or RMA, since Select Medical's recruiters screen for these credentials early.
Which visa types does Select Medical commonly use for Medical Assistant roles?
Select Medical has filed petitions under both H-1B and employment-based immigrant visa categories, including EB-2 and EB-3, for clinical support roles. For Medical Assistants, EB-3 is the more common immigrant pathway since it covers skilled workers in positions requiring less than a bachelor's degree. H-1B is the typical nonimmigrant route, subject to annual USCIS lottery registration.
What qualifications does Select Medical expect for sponsored Medical Assistant positions?
Select Medical typically expects candidates to hold a recognized Medical Assistant certification such as CMA through AAMA or RMA through AMT, along with relevant hands-on clinical experience. Roles in their outpatient rehabilitation network often require phlebotomy skills, EHR system familiarity, and current BLS certification. State-specific licensure requirements also apply depending on which facility you're joining.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Medical Assistant hired by Select Medical?
For H-1B sponsorship, the process starts with USCIS lottery registration in March, with employment beginning October 1 at the earliest if selected. The employer must also file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting the H-1B petition. From offer acceptance to actual start date, candidates should plan for a timeline of six to nine months under standard processing.
