Verify Your Credentials Meet California Standards
Healthcare roles in California often require state-specific licensure or board certification before an employer can file a visa petition. Confirm your credentials are recognized by the relevant California licensing board before applying, so sponsorship can proceed without delays.
Target Roles With Persistent Hiring Demand
Sutter Health consistently recruits across nursing, pharmacy, therapy, and clinical support functions. Focus on roles where demand runs high year-round rather than short-term project positions, since ongoing staffing needs make employers more willing to invest in sponsorship.
Ask About Green Card Timelines Early
Sutter Health has sponsored both H-1B and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for healthcare workers. During offer negotiations, ask directly whether the role includes PERM-based sponsorship, since the DOL PERM labor certification process can take a year or more to complete.
Prepare Documentation for Clinical Background Checks
Healthcare employers run detailed pre-employment screenings including OIG exclusion checks and credentialing reviews. Have your education transcripts, professional references, and any prior U.S. work authorization documents organized before your interview stage to avoid stalling the offer and filing timeline.
Browse Open Roles Through Migrate Mate
Finding healthcare jobs with confirmed sponsorship history saves significant time in your search. Use Migrate Mate to filter for open positions at Sutter Health by visa type, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already part of the employer's hiring framework.
Understand How H-1B Cap Timing Affects Your Start Date
If you're not currently in H-1B status or at a cap-exempt institution, your employment at Sutter Health cannot begin until October 1 following a successful lottery. Factor this into your offer discussions so both you and the hiring team have realistic expectations about your start date.

Find Healthcare at Sutter Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sutter Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcares?
Yes, Sutter Health sponsors H-1B visas for healthcare roles that qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Clinical and technical positions such as pharmacists, physical therapists, and imaging specialists commonly meet this standard. Your role must demonstrate a direct connection between the degree requirement and the job duties for USCIS to approve the petition.
How do I apply for Healthcare jobs at Sutter Health?
Applications go through Sutter Health's careers portal, where you can filter by department and location across their Northern California network. Tailor your resume to highlight clinical qualifications and any U.S. licensure you hold. If you need visa sponsorship, state that clearly in your application or early in recruiter conversations so the hiring team can assess feasibility before extending an offer.
Which visa types does Sutter Health commonly use for Healthcare roles?
Sutter Health primarily uses the H-1B for temporary work authorization and EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based Green Card categories for permanent residency sponsorship in healthcare. Some nursing and allied health roles may also qualify under TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals. The right category depends on your role, degree, and long-term plans, so clarify this with the employer's immigration team during the offer stage.
What qualifications does Sutter Health expect for Healthcare positions?
Expectations vary by role, but most clinical positions require a relevant degree, active state licensure in California, and any board certifications specific to your specialty. For visa sponsorship purposes, USCIS will scrutinize whether your degree field directly corresponds to the job duties. Roles in pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and diagnostic imaging have clear degree-to-role alignment and tend to move through the sponsorship process more smoothly.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Healthcare role at Sutter Health?
Timeline depends on the visa category and whether you need PERM labor certification for a Green Card. An H-1B standard filing takes several months after USCIS opens the April lottery window, with employment starting October 1 at earliest. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL can add one to two years before an I-140 is filed. Starting conversations with your recruiter about sponsorship before you receive a formal offer helps both sides plan around these timelines. Migrate Mate lists open roles at Sutter Health where sponsorship has been used, giving you a practical starting point.
