Construction Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction worker in Utah?
Most construction trades in Utah require a license through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, which oversees credentials for electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and general contractors. Apprenticeship programs affiliated with Utah's building trades unions are a common starting point, combining paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Completion of an accredited vocational or technical program at institutions like Salt Lake Community College also strengthens a candidate's standing with Utah employers.
Which companies hire construction workers in Utah?
Utah construction roles are posted by Dennis, Terracon Consultants, and BHI and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's sustained growth in residential development and public infrastructure keeps a wide range of general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and construction management firms actively recruiting across the state.
Which Utah cities have the most construction jobs?
Salt Lake City, Saint George, and Ogden have the most construction openings in Utah right now. Salt Lake City anchors demand as the state's largest metro with ongoing commercial and transit projects, while the rapid residential expansion in Utah County and the booming retirement and resort development in the St. George area fuel hiring in those markets.
Are there remote construction jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. Most construction work is inherently hands-on and site-dependent, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 17% of construction openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to be in project management, estimating, or design coordination rather than field roles.
How can I get hired in construction in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a registered apprenticeship program, such as those run by the Utah AFL-CIO-affiliated building trades councils, which place candidates into paid field roles from day one. Large Utah contractors including Okland and Jacobsen hire laborers and construction assistants as entry-level positions that require no prior experience. Earning an OSHA 10 card before applying signals safety awareness and gives candidates a concrete edge over other entry-level applicants.
Where can I find and apply to construction jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to construction jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your trade, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
