Tips for Your Digital Marketing Strategist Job Search
Build a portfolio that shows strategy, not just execution
Hiring managers want to see how you think, not just what you ran. Include a brief case study for at least one campaign showing the initial brief, your channel mix decision, what you tested, and the result.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists digital marketing strategist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by the channels listed in each job posting
A paid search strategist and an organic content strategist both use the title 'digital marketing strategist.' Read the required channel mix carefully before applying so your resume and cover letter reflect the exact tools and platforms the role demands.
Prepare a channel recommendation for your interview
Many interviewers will present a fictional brand or budget and ask how you'd allocate spend. Prepare a repeatable framework covering audience sizing, intent stage, and attribution so you can answer confidently with a structured recommendation on the spot.
Negotiate using attribution data, not industry ranges
When discussing compensation, anchor your case to revenue or pipeline you directly influenced. A clear attribution story, showing what your campaigns generated, is more persuasive for a strategist role than citing what the market pays generically.
Digital Marketing Strategist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most digital marketing strategists?
The companies hiring the most digital marketing strategists right now include Directive, FleishmanHillard, and EWG, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Demand is concentrated in e-commerce, SaaS, and healthcare, though agencies continue to post consistently across all markets.
How many digital marketing strategist jobs are remote?
About 76% of digital marketing strategist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible roles in marketing. Positions focused on content strategy and paid media tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring close coordination with in-house creative or sales teams more often require some in-office presence.
How do you become a digital marketing strategist?
Start by building hands-on experience in one or two core channels, such as paid search, SEO, or social media, through entry-level marketing or coordinator roles. Develop your analytics skills, learn to read attribution data, and document campaign results carefully. Over time, expand your channel knowledge, take ownership of full campaign cycles, and build a portfolio that demonstrates strategic thinking alongside execution.
Can you get hired as a digital marketing strategist with little experience?
Yes, especially at smaller companies or agencies that value potential over tenure. Strengthen your application by completing certifications in Google Ads or Meta Blueprint, building a personal project or freelance case study that shows campaign thinking, and tailoring your resume to highlight any analytical work, content creation, or paid media exposure you already have, even from internships or side projects.
What does the digital marketing strategist interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on your channel experience and career goals, followed by a hiring manager interview covering past campaign results and strategic approach. Many employers include a practical exercise, such as a channel audit or media plan for a hypothetical brand, and a final round with senior marketing leadership or cross-functional stakeholders before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to digital marketing strategist jobs?
You can find and apply to digital marketing strategist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred channel focus, and apply directly to each listing without leaving the platform.
