Engineering Program Manager Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering program manager in South Dakota?
Most engineering program manager roles in South Dakota require a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, though some employers accept related technical fields combined with significant experience. South Dakota does not mandate a state-issued license specifically for program managers, but engineers who move into program leadership from a licensed engineering role may maintain their South Dakota Professional Engineer registration through the South Dakota State Board of Technical Professions. A PMP credential is widely recognized and strengthens applications at major employers in the state.
How much do engineering program managers make in South Dakota?
Engineering program managers in South Dakota earn a median of about $164,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $116,320 for the lowest 10% to over $209,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering program managers in South Dakota?
Companies currently hiring engineering program managers in South Dakota include CVS Health, Affirm, and AE2S, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's defense, agricultural technology, and healthcare infrastructure sectors generate consistent demand across both Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
Which South Dakota cities have the most engineering program manager jobs?
Sioux Falls, Pierre, and Rapid City have the most engineering program manager openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls leads because of its concentration of healthcare, financial technology, and advanced manufacturing employers, while Rapid City draws demand from defense and government contracting operations tied to Ellsworth Air Force Base, and Aberdeen supports program management roles through its agricultural equipment and manufacturing base.
Are there remote engineering program manager jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, and more than many engineering roles, since program management centers on coordination and planning rather than hands-on technical work. About 67% of engineering program manager openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of much of the role. Program oversight, reporting, and stakeholder communication are the functions most commonly performed remotely when employers permit it.
How can I get hired as a engineering program manager in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into program management from an adjacent engineering or project coordinator role at one of South Dakota's larger employers. Raven Industries and Daktronics in Sioux Falls and Rapid City area defense contractors regularly hire associate program coordinators or project engineers who then develop into full program manager positions. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential while working in a technical support or engineering analyst role gives candidates a clear credential edge when applying internally or to new employers.
