Tips for Your Events Manager Job Search
Quantify your event scale on your resume
Hiring managers scan for scope fast. List attendee counts, budget size, and number of vendors managed for each event you led. A resume that shows you ran a 2,000-person conference reads very differently from one that just says you planned events.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists events manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Tailor your application to the venue type
Corporate events and festival production require completely different skills. Read each job description carefully and mirror its language, whether that's budget management and executive stakeholder communication or logistics coordination and vendor negotiation, to show you understand that world.
Build a portfolio with run-of-show documents
Event planning portfolios that include actual run-of-show documents, floor plans, and post-event wrap reports stand out. If you don't have polished samples, recreate anonymized versions of real events you ran to show your process, not just outcomes.
Prepare for scenario-based interview questions
Events manager interviews routinely involve crisis scenarios: a vendor cancels two hours before doors open, or a keynote speaker drops out. Walk interviewers through your decision-making framework, not just what you did, but who you called first and how you communicated upward.
Negotiate using total event responsibility
When discussing compensation, anchor your case in the budget and headcount you were accountable for. Phrases like the dollar value of contracts you managed or the revenue a fundraising event generated give hiring managers a concrete frame for evaluating your offer expectations.
Events Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most events managers?
The companies hiring the most events managers right now include Wendy's, Burger King, and Sodexo, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially strong in corporate conference, association, and nonprofit fundraising environments.
How many events manager jobs are remote?
About 13% of events manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though the share varies significantly by specialization. Virtual event production and event technology coordination roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while venue-based and experiential marketing roles almost always require on-site presence.
How do you become an events manager?
Start by gaining hands-on experience coordinating smaller events, whether through internships, nonprofit volunteering, or assisting at a corporate events team. Build familiarity with event management platforms, vendor negotiation, and on-site logistics. A degree in hospitality, communications, or marketing helps, but a portfolio showing real events you planned and executed is what moves applications forward.
How do you get hired as an events manager with little experience?
Focus on roles with titles like events coordinator or events assistant, which are the standard entry points into this career. Document every event you've touched, including club events, volunteer fundraisers, or side projects, with attendee counts and logistics details. Getting certified through organizations like the Events Industry Council can also signal commitment to hiring managers evaluating candidates without a long work history.
What does the events manager interview process look like?
Most events manager interviews move through a phone screen focused on your event history, a structured in-person or video interview with scenario-based questions about vendor crises and timeline management, and sometimes a practical exercise where you walk through how you'd plan a sample event. Final rounds often include a meeting with the broader team or a key stakeholder you'd work with regularly.
Where can I find and apply to events manager jobs?
You can find and apply to events manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Find roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to each listing from the page.
