Finance Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance in Maine?
Most finance roles in Maine require at least a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or economics. For accounting-focused positions, candidates who obtain or are actively pursuing a Certified Public Accountant license through the Maine Board of Accountancy hold a clear advantage. Other credentials valued by Maine employers include the CFA designation for investment roles and the CFCS credential for financial compliance positions in banking and insurance.
Which companies hire finances in Maine?
Companies currently hiring finances in Maine include Ryder System, AHOLD Delhaize, and State of Maine, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's financial services sector, anchored by regional banks, insurance carriers, and large healthcare systems, generates the most consistent volume of finance openings across the state.
Which Maine cities have the most finance jobs?
Portland, Augusta, and Scarborough lead Maine in finance job openings. Portland drives the largest share as the state's commercial and financial services center, home to regional bank headquarters and insurance operations, while Augusta's concentration of state government agencies and Bangor's regional healthcare and banking employers sustain active hiring outside the Portland metro.
Are there remote finance jobs in Maine?
Yes, and more than many fields, since financial analysis, accounting, and planning work is largely desk-based and transferable to remote settings. About 56% of finance openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader industry trends. Roles in FP&A, financial reporting, and corporate accounting see the most remote availability, while positions requiring on-site presence at branch locations or healthcare facilities tend to stay in-person.
How can I get hired as a finance in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for financial analyst associate or accounting assistant roles at Maine's large healthcare systems and regional banks, which regularly hire recent graduates. MaineHealth, Bangor Savings Bank, and state government agencies in Augusta post entry-level finance openings and offer structured onboarding for candidates without deep experience. Completing an internship during school, obtaining an Excel or QuickBooks certification, and targeting accounts payable or budget analyst roles as a bridge position are practical ways to build a record Maine employers recognize.
Where can I find and apply to finance jobs in Maine?
You can find and apply to finance jobs in Maine on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and interests, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
