Finance And Accounting Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance and accounting professional in Maine?
Most finance and accounting roles in Maine require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers expect or prefer a CPA. The Maine Board of Accountancy oversees CPA licensure in the state, requiring candidates to pass the Uniform CPA Exam, meet education requirements that include accounting credit hours, and complete supervised work experience. Roles in government accounting may also require familiarity with the Maine Office of the State Auditor's standards.
Which companies hire finance and accountings in Maine?
Companies currently hiring finance and accountings in Maine include Hannaford, AHOLD Delhaize, and Ryder System, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's healthcare systems, regional banks, and state government agencies are among the most consistent sources of finance and accounting openings across the state.
Which Maine cities have the most finance and accounting jobs?
Portland, Augusta, and Saco are the Maine cities with the most finance and accounting openings. Portland dominates as the state's commercial center, home to regional banks, accounting firms, and corporate headquarters, while Augusta concentrates government and public-sector roles, and Bangor draws demand from healthcare systems and the University of Maine System campuses in the region.
Are there remote finance and accounting jobs in Maine?
Yes, and more than most fields. Finance and accounting is well suited to remote work given its desk-based, analytical nature. About 47% of finance and accounting openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broad employer comfort with distributed finance teams. Roles in financial analysis, bookkeeping, accounts payable, and management reporting are the most commonly posted as fully remote.
How can I get hired as a finance and accounting professional in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounts payable, accounts receivable, or staff accountant role at one of Maine's regional employers while pursuing or completing your degree. MaineHealth, Bangor Savings Bank, and state government agencies regularly hire accounting assistants and junior analysts who move into full finance roles over time. A completed associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, even without experience, makes a strong case, and sitting for the CPA exam before you finish provides a measurable edge over other entry-level candidates.
Where can I find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in Maine?
You can find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in Maine on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
