New York does not require a state-issued license for HR interns, but completing coursework in employment law or obtaining a student membership through the Society for Human Resource Management strengthens applications. Many New York employers recruit directly through campus career centers at CUNY, Fordham, or Cornell ILR.
How much do human resources interns make in New York?
Human resources interns in New York earn a median of about $52,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,000 for the lowest 10% to over $73,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire human resources interns in New York?
Employers hiring human resources interns in New York right now include International Rescue Committee, Interstate Waste Services, and Bank of China USA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major hospital systems, and media companies means intern openings appear year-round rather than only during traditional summer cycles.
Which New York cities have the most human resources intern jobs?
New York, Bronx, and Brooklyn have the most human resources intern openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and large nonprofit organizations, while White Plains and Buffalo attract openings from regional healthcare networks and mid-size employers headquartered outside the city.
Are there remote human resources intern jobs in New York?
Yes, and they are more common than in many other intern fields. About 14% of human resources intern openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much HR administrative and recruiting coordination can be done digitally. How can I get hired as a human resources intern in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured internship programs run by large New York employers, which are designed for candidates without prior HR experience. CUNY system students can access dedicated pipelines at city agencies and nonprofits, and institutions like NYC Health and Hospitals and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority run formal intern cohorts each semester.
