Human Resources Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources professional in Louisiana?
Louisiana does not require a state-issued license to work in human resources, so the path begins with a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field from an accredited Louisiana institution such as LSU, Tulane, or the University of New Orleans. Most employers prefer or require professional certification, with the SHRM-CP and PHR being the most recognized credentials in the state. Entry-level candidates often start as HR assistants or coordinators before advancing.
Which companies hire human resources professionals in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring human resources professionals in Louisiana include Entergy, Ochsner Health, and Scholastic, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisiana's strong healthcare, energy, and public-sector industries mean large hospital systems, oil and gas firms, and state agencies are among the most consistent sources of human resources openings across the state.
Which Louisiana cities have the most human resources jobs?
Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette have the most human resources openings in Louisiana. New Orleans drives volume through its large healthcare systems, hospitality employers, and port-related industries, while Baton Rouge concentrates openings in state government, higher education, and petrochemical companies, and Shreveport's healthcare and manufacturing sectors support a steady regional demand for human resources professionals.
Are there remote human resources jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than many fields, since a significant portion of human resources work involving recruiting, benefits administration, and policy development can be done remotely. About 20% of human resources openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broad employer acceptance of flexible arrangements. Talent acquisition and HRIS-focused roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while employee relations and on-site HR generalist positions typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a human resources professional in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an HR coordinator or HR assistant role, which large Louisiana employers in healthcare and state government regularly post as early-career positions. Ochsner Health and the Louisiana Department of Civil Service both run structured onboarding pipelines that welcome recent graduates. Candidates coming from adjacent roles like office management, payroll, or customer service can transition effectively by earning a SHRM-CP or PHR certification to signal readiness, even without direct HR titles on their resume.
Where can I find and apply to human resources jobs in Louisiana?
