Industrial Maintenance Technician Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a industrial maintenance technician in New York?
New York does not require a single statewide license for industrial maintenance technicians, but most employers expect a combination of vocational training and hands-on experience. Completing a trade or industrial technology program at a BOCES career and technical education center or a SUNY community college is a common starting point. Certifications such as EPA Section 608 for refrigerants and OSHA safety credentials strengthen candidacy and are frequently listed as requirements by New York manufacturers and utilities.
How much do industrial maintenance technicians make in New York?
Industrial maintenance technicians in New York earn a median of about $67,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,880 for the lowest 10% to over $104,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire industrial maintenance technicians in New York?
Employers hiring industrial maintenance technicians in New York right now include ABM Industries, Casella Waste Systems, and Guardian Industries, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's manufacturing corridor along the Erie Canal and the utility and food processing sectors in the Buffalo-Rochester region consistently generate some of the steadiest openings in the state.
Which New York cities have the most industrial maintenance technician jobs?
New York, Barbezieux, and Freedom have the most industrial maintenance technician openings in New York right now. Buffalo and Rochester anchor the demand through their dense concentration of food and beverage manufacturers, precision manufacturers, and utility infrastructure, while the New York City metro adds volume through large commercial facilities management, transit operations, and distribution centers that require full-time maintenance staff.
Are there remote industrial maintenance technician jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Industrial maintenance is a hands-on, on-site trade, so the vast majority of roles require a physical presence on the plant floor or in the facility. About 0% of industrial maintenance technician openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to involve remote monitoring, controls programming, or vendor coordination rather than direct equipment maintenance work.
How can I get hired as a industrial maintenance technician in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a registered apprenticeship or entry-level maintenance helper role, which many large New York manufacturers and utility companies use to build their workforce from scratch. BOCES programs and SUNY community colleges offer industrial technology certificates that qualify graduates for these openings. Large facilities and food processing operations in the Buffalo and Rochester areas often hire maintenance associates willing to train toward PLC and electrical competencies on the job, and holding an OSHA 10 card from the start gives applicants a visible edge.
Where can I find and apply to industrial maintenance technician jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to industrial maintenance technician jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
