Job description:
Under the supervision of the Employment Coordinator, the Skills Training Instructor will be responsible for providing training and support for interns, host site, co-workers, families, area businesses and the community to ensure success during the worksite rotations and/or a competitive job. The Project Search Skills Training Instructor will also be responsible, as assigned, to provide extended services to clients who have gained and retain community employment.
A. RESPONSIBILITIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide individualized support for student interns at host business worksite rotations or competitive jobs, including job coaching, building natural supports, identifying accommodations, assistive technology, etc.
2. Communicate effectively with the Project SEARCH instructor, job coaches, employers, co-workers, family members, and agency staff regarding the intern's training progress.
3. Conduct job analyses, task breakdowns, and job matching activities.
4. Implement individualized job coaching plans collaboratively developed with the support team.
5. Assist in problem-solving with participants, employers, families, agency, and Project SEARCH team members related to training and employment issues.
6. Use positive reinforcement techniques when working with interns, co-workers and staff.
7. Provide training in grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and behavior as it relates to workplace success.
8. Provide transportation to job sites r transportation support during job development as needed.
9. Attend professional development to stay current on best practices in supported employment.
10. Participate in collaborative decision-making and strategy development with the Project SEARCH and host business teams.
11. Identify and build relationships with potential employers for intern placement and competitive employment.
12. Assist in or lead efforts to secure integrated employment opportunities for program graduates.
13. Travel to competitive job sites and navigate diverse work environments.
B. Work Environment
Work conditions vary by site and may include exposure to noise, dust, changing temperatures, lighting conditions, and uneven surfaces, depending on the training environment.
D. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical activities depend on the training setting and may include prolonged standing or sitting, bending, stooping, lifting, grasping, stretching, visual monitoring, fine motor tasks, and driving.
E. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
1. Degree in related field preferred but not required.
2. Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
3. Must maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
4. Must have a Valid Driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
5. Ability to work in diverse settings including homes, businesses, schools, and community sites.
6. Experience in sales or marketing a plus.
7. Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
8. Can pass a drug test.
F. SALARY
Starting salary $19.50/per hour. Note: $17.50/per hour without degree.
