Life Insurance Agent Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a life insurance agent in Tennessee?
You must obtain a life insurance producer license through the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. The process requires completing a state-approved pre-licensing education course, passing the Tennessee Life and Health insurance licensing exam administered by Pearson VUE, and submitting a license application with a background check. No college degree is required by the state, though most carriers expect a high school diploma or equivalent at minimum.
Which companies hire life insurance agents in Tennessee?
Employers hiring life insurance agents in Tennessee right now include State Farm, GMN, and Morris Agency, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Tennessee's mix of independent agencies, captive carriers, and regional financial planning firms means openings exist across a wide range of business models and commission structures.
Which Tennessee cities have the most life insurance agent jobs?
Nashville, Chattanooga, and Tennessee have the most life insurance agent openings in Tennessee. Nashville's large and fast-growing population drives the heaviest volume, while Memphis benefits from a deep base of working-class and middle-income households that carriers target for final expense and group life products, and Knoxville's expansion into suburban markets has brought additional agency and carrier offices to the region.
Are there remote life insurance agent jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since many life insurance agent roles rely on in-person client meetings and relationship building. About 50% of life insurance agent openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in phone-based sales, group benefits consulting, and licensed customer service roles rather than traditional field sales.
How can I get hired as a life insurance agent in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a captive carrier training program, where companies like State Farm and Northwestern Mutual recruit licensed candidates with no prior sales experience and provide structured onboarding. Obtaining your Tennessee life insurance producer license first gives you a clear edge. Adjacent roles like insurance customer service representative or financial services associate at Tennessee banks and credit unions also serve as common stepping stones into a full agent position.
Where can I find and apply to life insurance agent jobs in Tennessee?
