Tips for Your National Account Sales Job Search
Quantify your book of business
National account sales hiring managers want to see the size and scope of the accounts you've managed. Lead your resume bullets with revenue retained, contract value grown, and number of locations or business units served under each account.
Target openings by vertical alignment
Your existing relationships and category knowledge are your biggest differentiators. Filter for roles in the exact industry vertical you've sold into so hiring managers can see you already understand their buyers, margin expectations, and procurement cycles.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists national account sales openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a territory plan for interviews
Many national account sales final rounds include a 30-60-90 day plan presentation. Build one that names the account tiers you'd prioritize, the internal stakeholders you'd align with first, and how you'd assess whitespace in the assigned portfolio.
Highlight cross-functional selling experience
National account roles require coordinating with supply chain, finance, and marketing on both sides of the deal. Call out specific examples where you aligned internal teams to close or expand a complex, multi-stakeholder account.
Negotiate total compensation, not just base
National account sales offers often include variable commission structures, car allowances, and quarterly bonuses tied to renewal rates. Get the full on-target earnings breakdown and understand which metrics your variable pay is measured against before accepting.
