Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Ohio?
To practice in Ohio, nurse practitioners must hold an active certificate of authority issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing, which requires a graduate-level nursing degree and national certification from a body such as ANCC or AANP. Physician assistants must obtain a license from the State Medical Board of Ohio after completing an accredited PA program and passing the PANCE exam. Both roles require maintaining a collaborative or supervision agreement with a licensed Ohio physician.
Which companies hire nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Ohio?
Employers hiring nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Ohio right now include Signify Health, OhioHealth, and Concentra, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Ohio's large integrated health systems, regional hospital networks, and expanding urgent care chains generate consistent hiring activity across both urban centers and rural communities throughout the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs?
The Ohio cities with the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings are Ohio, Cincinnati, and Dayton. Columbus leads due to its dense concentration of OhioHealth and Nationwide Children's facilities, Cleveland draws volume from the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals systems, and Cincinnati's activity is anchored by UC Health and TriHealth, with additional demand in surrounding suburban communities.
Are there remote nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. Most NP and PA roles require direct patient contact and cannot be performed remotely. About 83% of nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are typically in telehealth triage, chronic disease management, or utilization review rather than primary clinical care.
How can I get hired as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a formal new-graduate residency or fellowship program, several of which are offered by Cleveland Clinic, OhioHealth, and Nationwide Children's Hospital specifically for newly certified NPs and PAs. Candidates coming from RN or surgical tech backgrounds have a meaningful advantage in competitive units. Securing a full Ohio license and national certification before applying, and targeting federally qualified health centers in underserved Ohio communities, also improves early-career prospects.
Where can I find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Ohio?
