Summary:

• Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, and administrative/clerical support. In a medical office setting: rooms patients, takes and records vital signs, and collects specimens.

Minimum Qualifications:

Formal Education Required:

• Must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited associate degree or bachelor’s degree nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation.
• Proven ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions, and perform basic mathematical functions.

Nursing Student Tech (NST) Conditions of Eligibility:

• An employee may remain in the NST job post-graduation and pre-licensure up to six (6) months after which their eligibility to stay employed as an NST will cease.

Experience and Training Required:

• Must complete Summa’s orientation.
• Current BLS-HCP card upon hire and maintained thereafter.

• Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, frequent pushing, pulling and lifting of patients, cleaning equipment, and materials.
• Ability to provide necessary care for patients (i.e. neonate/newborns, children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, and geriatric adults) as required by position.
• Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.

Level of Physical Demands:

• Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
• Exposure to blood and body fluids and sharps; risks to falls, strains, contagious diseases, etc.

Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
