Patient Care Manager Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a patient care manager in Maryland?
Most patient care manager roles in Maryland require an active registered nurse license from the Maryland Board of Nursing, which involves passing the NCLEX-RN exam after completing an accredited nursing program. Employers typically also expect a bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare management and several years of direct clinical experience. Some positions in behavioral health or home health lean toward social work licensure through the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners instead, depending on the organization's care model.
Which companies hire patient care managers in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring patient care managers in Maryland include University of Maryland Medical System, DaVita, and U.S. Renal Care, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's concentration of large academic medical centers, regional health systems, and federally influenced healthcare organizations along the I-95 corridor makes it one of the more active mid-Atlantic markets for this role.
Which Maryland cities have the most patient care manager jobs?
Baltimore, Bel Air, and Bethesda have the most patient care manager openings in Maryland. Baltimore anchors the market as home to major academic health systems including Johns Hopkins Medicine and University of Maryland Medical System, while the Montgomery County and Prince George's County suburbs draw openings tied to MedStar Health and the proximity of federal health agencies, making even smaller communities in that corridor consistent sources of hiring activity.
Are there remote patient care manager jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they're relatively limited. About 0% of patient care manager openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the largely on-site nature of clinical supervision and hands-on care coordination. The portions of the role most often performed remotely include telephonic care management, utilization review, and population health coordination for insurance or managed care organizations.
How can I get hired as a patient care manager in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to join a large Maryland health system in a staff nurse or case management associate role and build supervisory exposure from there. University of Maryland Medical System and MedStar Health both run new-graduate nurse residency programs that can position candidates for care coordination tracks within two to three years. Moving laterally from a charge nurse, utilization review coordinator, or discharge planner role is also a recognized stepping stone. Holding a Care Manager Certified credential from the American Institute of Health Care Professionals strengthens an application at the early career stage.
Where can I find and apply to patient care manager jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to patient care manager jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
