Project Accountant Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project accountant in Arizona?
Most project accountant roles in Arizona require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers in construction and development prefer candidates who are pursuing or have earned CPA licensure through the Arizona State Board of Accountancy. The board administers the Uniform CPA Examination and handles licensure for Arizona practitioners. Entry-level candidates often start as accounting assistants or junior cost accountants within construction or real estate firms, building job-costing experience before moving into a dedicated project accountant title.
Which companies hire project accountants in Arizona?
Employers hiring project accountants in Arizona right now include DPR Construction, Clayco, and Graycor, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arizona's active construction pipeline and large public-sector contracting activity keep demand for project accountants steady across both private developers and government-affiliated organizations throughout the state.
Which Arizona cities have the most project accountant jobs?
Phoenix, Tempe, and Chandler account for the largest share of project accountant openings in Arizona. The Phoenix metro dominates because of its concentration of commercial construction firms, infrastructure contractors, and corporate headquarters, while Tucson's openings are driven by university-affiliated projects, defense contractors, and regional developers active in southern Arizona.
Are there remote project accountant jobs in Arizona?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based finance roles, since project accountants often need to coordinate directly with field teams, review site documentation, or attend project meetings. About 100% of project accountant openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The tasks most frequently performed remotely are financial reporting, budget reconciliation, and invoice processing rather than on-site cost verification.
How can I get hired as a project accountant in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an accounting assistant or accounts payable coordinator within a construction or real estate development firm, then moving into project cost tracking responsibilities. Large Arizona contractors and developers such as Sundt Construction and Ryan Companies regularly hire entry-level accounting staff and provide on-the-job exposure to job costing and contract administration. Completing coursework in construction accounting or earning an associate-level credential through the Arizona Society of CPAs can strengthen an application, and proficiency in Procore or Sage 300 Construction often differentiates candidates with limited work history.
Where can I find and apply to project accountant jobs in Arizona?
You can find and apply to project accountant jobs in Arizona on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
