Project Development Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project development manager in New York?
Most project development managers in New York enter through a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, urban planning, or business administration, followed by several years in project coordinator or analyst roles. New York does not require a state-issued license specifically for this title, but roles touching licensed trades or design often require close coordination with licensed professionals. Earning a PMP credential strengthens candidacy significantly, and experience navigating New York City's Department of Buildings permitting process is a consistent hiring advantage.
How much do project development managers make in New York?
Project development managers in New York earn a median of about $121,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,580 for the lowest 10% to over $192,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project development managers in New York?
Employers hiring project development managers in New York right now include Amazon, DoorDash, and EY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of large-scale real estate, utility, and public works projects means both private developers and public authorities regularly post for this role throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most project development manager jobs?
New York, New York City, and Brooklyn account for the highest concentration of project development manager openings in New York. New York City dominates due to its volume of commercial real estate, transit, and energy infrastructure projects, while Buffalo and Albany see consistent demand driven by state-funded development initiatives and regional utility and construction employers anchored in those markets.
Are there remote project development manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're limited. About 36% of project development manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on and site-coordination nature of most roles in this field. The portions of the work most likely to go remote include planning, budgeting, stakeholder reporting, and contract review, while site oversight and vendor meetings typically require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a project development manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a project coordinator or development associate role at a large New York construction firm, utility, or real estate developer, where you build hands-on exposure to project schedules, permitting, and budgets. Employers such as large public authorities and major general contractors operating across New York City often hire recent graduates into junior program roles. Completing a PMP prep course and demonstrating familiarity with New York City's permitting and land-use review process makes candidates meaningfully more competitive at the entry level.
Where can I find and apply to project development manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to project development manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the employer.
