Registered Nurse Med Surg Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered nurse med surg in Colorado?
You become a registered nurse med surg in Colorado by earning an Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing, passing the NCLEX-RN, and obtaining an active RN license through the Colorado State Board of Nursing. Colorado participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so nurses licensed in other compact states can work in Colorado without a separate license. From there, most med-surg positions require only your RN license and BLS certification to apply.
How much do registered nurse med surgs make in Colorado?
Registered nurse med surgs in Colorado earn a median of about $100,260 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,500 for the lowest 10% to over $124,940 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered nurse med surgs in Colorado?
Colorado registered nurse med surg roles are posted by CommonSpirit Health, AdventHealth Porter, and AdventHealth Littleton and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's large integrated health systems drive the bulk of med-surg hiring, particularly in the Denver metro and along the Front Range corridor.
Which Colorado cities have the most registered nurse med surg jobs?
Denver, Greeley, and Littleton have the most registered nurse med surg openings in Colorado right now. Denver and Aurora lead because of the concentration of major hospital campuses and academic medical centers there, while Colorado Springs supports a substantial inpatient nursing workforce tied to its regional hospital systems and military healthcare facilities.
Are there remote registered nurse med surg jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're rare. Registered nurse med surg is a hands-on inpatient role, so the vast majority of positions require on-site bedside presence. About 17% of registered nurse med surg openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those exceptions are almost exclusively in care coordination, utilization review, or transitional care management rather than direct floor nursing.
How can I get hired as a registered nurse med surg in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate residency program, which UCHealth, Centura Health, and SCL Health all run for RNs without acute care experience. These structured programs place new grads directly onto med-surg units with extended orientation and mentorship. Nurses transitioning from long-term care, rehabilitation, or outpatient settings are also competitive candidates. Holding a current Colorado RN license, BLS, and willingness to work nights or rotating shifts gives entry-level applicants a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to registered nurse med surg jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to registered nurse med surg jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
