Restaurant General Manager Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant general manager in Hawaii?
The most direct path is progressing through front-of-house or kitchen roles at Hawaii's resort and hotel dining outlets before stepping into a management title. Hawaii does not require a state-issued manager license, but the Hawaii Department of Health requires all food establishment managers to hold a current food safety certification such as ServSafe Manager. Most employers on the islands expect several years of supervisory experience in high-volume environments before promoting someone to general manager.
Which companies hire restaurant general managers in Hawaii?
Employers hiring restaurant general managers in Hawaii right now include Denny's, 1 Hotels, and P.F. Chang's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's resort-heavy economy means the most consistent openings come from large hotel and hospitality groups operating multiple dining outlets across Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island.
Which Hawaii cities have the most restaurant general manager jobs?
The cities with the most restaurant general manager openings in Hawaii are Honolulu, Kīhei, and Princeville. Honolulu dominates the market because it concentrates the islands' largest hotel corridors, convention dining, and standalone restaurant groups, while Maui and Kauai listings reflect the strong resort and boutique dining demand in their respective visitor economies.
Are there remote restaurant general manager jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. Restaurant general management is fundamentally an on-site role requiring daily oversight of staff, service, and kitchen operations, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of restaurant general manager openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles tend to involve regional or district oversight functions rather than single-unit floor management.
How can I get hired as a restaurant general manager in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an assistant manager or floor supervisor role at one of Hawaii's large hotel dining programs, where internal promotion tracks are common. Major resort operators on Oahu and Maui frequently recruit shift leaders and department supervisors from within and offer structured leadership development. Earning a ServSafe Manager certification and gaining experience in high-volume service, even in a server or lead host role at a busy Waikiki property, positions candidates well for that first management step.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant general manager jobs in Hawaii?
