Position Overview

Peter Pan Bus Lines is seeking an experienced and highly organized Safety & Compliance Manager to support our company-wide safety, regulatory compliance, and driver training programs.

This position plays an important role in maintaining the highest standards of safety across our motorcoach operations. The Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for day-to-day regulatory compliance, driver qualification and training programs, safety audits, accident prevention initiatives, incident management, and regulatory recordkeeping.

Working under the direction of the Senior Director, Safety & Security, this position collaborates closely with Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources, drivers, trainers, dispatchers, and management to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations while promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, ADA, OSHA, TSA, and applicable state transportation regulations, escalating significant compliance concerns to the Senior Director.

• Administer and monitor applicable DOT drug and alcohol testing programs, including required testing, documentation, recordkeeping, and compliance.

• Oversee Driver Qualification Files (DQFs), MVR monitoring, background checks, medical certifications, licensing requirements, and related driver qualification records.

• Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) and idling compliance and oversee ELD auditing.

• Conduct regular safety audits and facility inspections.

• Review and support the use of safety technology, including onboard cameras, telematics, and driver monitoring systems.

• Oversee new-hire driver safety orientation and training programs.

• Coordinate recurring and remedial driver training, including defensive driving, ADA, customer service, and other required safety topics.

• Develop and deliver safety training and guidance for managers, supervisors, dispatchers, drivers, and other employees.

• Serve as a Safety Department contact for collisions and incidents and as the primary liaison with insurance carriers and adjusters, supporting investigations in coordination with the Senior Director.

• Maintain accurate incident records and required reporting, including the FMCSA Accident Register.

• Develop and recommend corrective action, coaching, and retraining plans based on identified safety or compliance deficiencies.

• Assist management and Human Resources with violations of company safety policies, including documentation, retraining, and disciplinary recommendations when appropriate.

• Maintain regulatory audit readiness and assist with federal and state compliance reviews, audits, investigations, and requests for records.

• Monitor changes to transportation and workplace safety regulations and assist with updates to company policies, procedures, training materials, and compliance practices.

• Partner with Operations and Maintenance to address employee performance trends, safety inspections, and fleet compliance.

• Promote a strong company-wide safety culture through communication, coaching, safety briefings, and collaboration.

• Provide regular reports to the Senior Director and company leadership regarding compliance, incident trends, driver training, and other safety-related matters.

• Supervisory & Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day direction and oversight to driver training personnel to ensure compliance with and progression through the company's driver training program.

• Provide safety-related coaching, guidance, training, and performance feedback to drivers, trainers, dispatchers, supervisors, and other personnel.

• Ensure assigned Safety Department responsibilities are completed accurately, consistently, and within required regulatory deadlines.

Qualifications & Competencies:

• Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, ADA, OSHA, and TSA regulations and guidelines.

• Strong knowledge of motorcoach, commercial passenger transportation, or similar transportation operations.

• Understanding of dispatch operations, driver schedules, Hours of Service requirements, and fleet maintenance needs.

• Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources, and other departments to resolve safety-related concerns.

• An understanding of the day-to-day challenges faced by professional drivers and the ability to develop practical, real-world safety solutions.

• Knowledge of telematics, onboard camera systems, ELDs, and other transportation safety technologies.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong training, coaching, and presentation skills.

• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and recognize when matters require escalation.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly related to regulatory documentation and deadlines.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other reporting and presentation tools.
