Sales Assistant Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales assistant in Maryland?
Most sales assistant positions in Maryland require a high school diploma and some customer service or retail experience, with no state-issued license needed for the majority of roles. Exceptions exist in financial services, where positions involving investment products may require FINRA Series licenses coordinated through your employer. Candidates who complete an associate degree in business or marketing, or earn a professional sales certificate from a Maryland community college, tend to move into roles faster.
Which companies hire sales assistants in Maryland?
Maryland sales assistant roles are posted by Target, Williams-Sonoma, and QXO and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Maryland's mix of federal contractors, financial firms headquartered in the Baltimore metro, and large hospitality brands in the D.C. suburbs keeps demand for sales support consistent across multiple industries.
Which Maryland cities have the most sales assistant jobs?
Laurel, Columbia, and Baltimore lead Maryland for sales assistant openings. Baltimore drives volume through its concentration of financial services firms, healthcare systems, and regional retail headquarters, while the Montgomery County and Prince George's County suburbs generate strong demand from federal contractors and corporate campuses that rely heavily on inside sales and account support staff.
Are there remote sales assistant jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because many sales assistant roles involve in-person client interaction, showroom support, or on-site coordination. About 0% of sales assistant openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, concentrated mainly in inside sales support and account coordination functions rather than retail or field-facing positions.
How can I get hired as a sales assistant in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for retail sales associate or customer service representative roles at large Maryland-based employers like grocery chains, department stores, or hospitality groups in Baltimore or the D.C. suburbs, then moving laterally into a sales assistant title. Many Maryland community colleges offer short-term sales and business development certificates that strengthen an application. Volunteering to handle client outreach or scheduling in an administrative role at a Maryland organization also builds a credible foundation employers recognize.
