Senior Devops Engineer Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior devops engineer in Ohio?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a senior devops engineer in Ohio. The typical path runs through a bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology, followed by several years of hands-on infrastructure or software engineering experience. Ohio employers, particularly in Columbus's financial tech sector and Cleveland's healthcare IT corridor, expect demonstrated expertise in cloud platforms and container technologies, often validated through vendor certifications from AWS, HashiCorp, or the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.
How much do senior devops engineers make in Ohio?
Senior devops engineers in Ohio earn a median of about $114,090 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,790 for the lowest 10% to over $168,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior devops engineers in Ohio?
Employers hiring senior devops engineers in Ohio right now include PwC, STR, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Ohio's concentration of large financial institutions, insurance headquarters, and healthcare systems means demand is broad and relatively stable across sectors beyond pure technology.
Which Ohio cities have the most senior devops engineer jobs?
Columbus, Ohio, and Dayton have the most senior devops engineer openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because it is home to the headquarters of major financial services and insurance firms, while Cleveland's large healthcare systems and Cleveland Clinic anchor demand in that metro, and Cincinnati's consumer goods and regional banking employers contribute consistent openings across the southern part of the state.
Are there remote senior devops engineer jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of senior devops engineer openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how naturally the role suits distributed work. Infrastructure automation, pipeline development, and cloud configuration work are the most commonly offered remote functions, while roles requiring hands-on datacenter access or embedded team leadership tend to require at least partial on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a senior devops engineer in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a systems administrator, cloud support, or junior software engineer role at a large Ohio employer, then building toward DevOps responsibilities over time. Ohio's major healthcare systems, state government agencies, and financial services firms regularly hire associate infrastructure or IT operations engineers who grow into DevOps functions. Earning an AWS Cloud Practitioner or HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification before applying gives candidates a concrete, verifiable edge when moving from adjacent roles like network engineer or release coordinator.
