Collects patient samples using best practices for phlebotomy. Documents receipt of patient samples in Lab Information System (LIS) and prepares them for analysis. As a Lead LST, this individual has additional accountability for assigned administrative tasks or projects and serving as a role model for the LST group in the department.
- FT - Days 3 12-hour shifts per week: 0700-1930 Week 1: Sunday, Monday Tuesday. Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Friday
- Collects patient specimens in accordance with laboratory's policy, procedures and regulatory standards.
- Correlates patient samples to provider laboratory test orders in the LIS/EMR.
- Performs and reports Point of Care laboratory testing as required.
- Uses education and experience to identify and resolve patient circumstances that may interfere with accurate sample collection.
- Trains new employees and precepts phlebotomy students.
- Assists with competency evaluations.
- Manages supply ordering and inventory levels.
- Manages and directs staff scheduling, as assigned.
- Serves as a resource for staff to resolve problems or issues that may impact patient care.
- Participates in performance improvement activities, as assigned.
- Phlebotomy Certification, ASCP or HNA (required) within 9 months of hire
