Tax Senior Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior in Oklahoma?
Becoming a tax senior in Oklahoma starts with earning a bachelor's degree in accounting and passing the CPA exam, then obtaining licensure through the Oklahoma Accountancy Board. Most employers require an active Oklahoma CPA license or a license from another state eligible for reciprocity. Candidates typically spend several years in tax compliance or advisory roles before moving into a senior position, building expertise in areas such as corporate income tax, pass-through entity work, or industry-specific taxation like oil and gas.
How much do tax seniors make in Oklahoma?
Tax seniors in Oklahoma earn a median of about $79,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,670 for the lowest 10% to over $155,480 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax seniors in Oklahoma?
Companies currently hiring tax seniors in Oklahoma include TALNT, Weaver, and Eide Bailly, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Oklahoma's energy sector, anchored in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, generates consistent demand from both publicly traded corporations and the regional public accounting firms that serve them.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most tax senior jobs?
Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Norman have the most tax senior openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City leads because of its concentration of energy company headquarters and large regional accounting firms, while Tulsa's base of midstream operators, manufacturers, and established CPA practices creates strong secondary demand. Smaller markets like Broken Arrow see openings tied to suburban corporate campuses and growing professional services firms.
Are there remote tax senior jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, and more than most fields, since tax work is largely document-driven and software-based. About 40% of tax senior openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the analytical nature of the role. Federal and state income tax compliance, tax provision work, and research tasks are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely, while client-facing advisory roles more often require in-office or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a tax senior in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting as a tax associate or staff accountant at a regional Oklahoma public accounting firm, many of which run structured new-graduate programs during busy season. Firms affiliated with BDO, RSM, and FORVIS Mazur in Oklahoma City and Tulsa regularly onboard entry-level candidates and promote from within. Sitting for the CPA exam early and gaining any exposure to oil and gas or pass-through entity returns gives candidates a meaningful edge when applying for that first senior-level role.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to tax senior jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
