Tax Senior Manager Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior manager in Iowa?
The concrete path starts with earning a CPA license through the Iowa Accountancy Examining Board, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination, completing the required accounting education hours, and fulfilling supervised experience. Most candidates move through staff and senior associate roles at a public accounting firm or in a corporate tax department, building compliance and review experience before stepping into a manager role and then advancing to senior manager after demonstrating leadership over client engagements or tax teams.
How much do tax senior managers make in Iowa?
Tax senior managers in Iowa earn a median of about $77,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,420 for the lowest 10% to over $123,700 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax senior managers in Iowa?
Iowa tax senior manager roles are posted by Honkamp, UHY LLP, and Purple Cow Recruiting and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Iowa's concentration of insurance, financial services, and manufacturing headquarters in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids makes those employers particularly active at the senior manager level.
Which Iowa cities have the most tax senior manager jobs?
Waverly, Muscatine, and Des Moines have the most tax senior manager openings in Iowa. Des Moines drives the largest share given its density of insurance carriers, financial institutions, and regional accounting firm offices, while Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities add volume through manufacturing and agribusiness headquarters that maintain in-house tax functions at the senior level.
Are there remote tax senior manager jobs in Iowa?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of tax senior manager openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the work. Compliance review, tax provision work, and client advisory functions are the sub-areas most commonly offered on a fully remote or hybrid basis.
How can I get hired as a tax senior manager in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is entering through a staff accountant or tax associate role at a Des Moines or Cedar Rapids public accounting firm, where rotational programs at firms like RSM or regional practices give early-career candidates structured progression toward manager and then senior manager. Lateral moves from financial analyst or internal audit roles at Iowa corporate employers can also open the door, especially when paired with active CPA examination progress or completion, which Iowa hiring managers treat as the primary credentialing edge.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior manager jobs in Iowa?
