Technical Representative Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical representative in California?
Most California employers require a bachelor's degree in engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related technical field, followed by product-specific training provided on the job. California does not issue a universal state license for technical representatives, but roles in medical devices or clinical diagnostics often require familiarity with FDA regulations and, in some cases, a California Board of Pharmacy registration if the product line includes prescription items. Building hands-on product knowledge and earning manufacturer certifications strengthens candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire technical representatives in California?
Employers hiring technical representatives in California right now include Sika Corporation, BlueScope Buildings North America, and EnerSys, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of medical device makers, semiconductor equipment firms, and enterprise software companies means demand is spread across both large multinationals and well-funded mid-size manufacturers headquartered in the Bay Area and San Diego corridors.
Which California cities have the most technical representative jobs?
Los Angeles, Chino, and San Mateo have the most technical representative openings in California. San Jose and the broader Bay Area lead because of the density of semiconductor, automation, and enterprise technology companies headquartered there, while San Diego's strong life sciences and medical device cluster drives demand in the south, and Los Angeles adds volume through its aerospace, industrial, and healthcare technology sectors.
Are there remote technical representative jobs in California?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because technical representatives typically travel to customer sites to demonstrate equipment and provide on-site support. About 17% of technical representative openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and these tend to concentrate in software-focused or inside sales variants of the role where product support happens over video and screen share rather than in person.
How can I get hired as a technical representative in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a field service associate or junior applications specialist role at a California medical device or industrial equipment company, where formal rotational programs bring in candidates with strong technical degrees and train them on the product line. Companies like Beckman Coulter and Intuitive Surgical run structured new-graduate programs out of their California campuses. Lateral moves from roles like lab technician, biomedical equipment technician, or inside sales support are also common on-ramps, and earning a manufacturer's product certification before applying gives candidates a visible edge.
Where can I find and apply to technical representative jobs in California?
You can find and apply to technical representative jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that match your background and apply directly without any extra steps.
