Which government employers in Arizona sponsor H-1B visas?
Federal agencies operating in Arizona, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and various Department of Defense components, have filed H-1B petitions for technical and professional roles. Large defense contractors with government contracts, such as Raytheon Technologies, General Dynamics, and Honeywell, are also significant H-1B sponsors in the state and are classified under the government and public sector category.
Which cities in Arizona have the most government H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Phoenix accounts for the largest share, driven by its concentration of state agencies, federal offices, and defense contractors. Tucson is a strong secondary market, anchored by Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and defense-sector employers. Mesa and Tempe also see sponsorship activity, particularly from government-adjacent technology contractors. Flagstaff has a smaller but active footprint through Northern Arizona University and federal land management agencies.
What types of government roles in Arizona typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in Arizona's government sector is most common for roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific specialty field. Software engineers, cybersecurity analysts, systems architects, civil and aerospace engineers, and policy analysts are among the positions that regularly meet the specialty occupation standard. General administrative or clerical roles rarely qualify, as the H-1B requires the position to theoretically and practically require a specialized degree.
How do I find government H-1B sponsorship jobs in Arizona?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by state, visa type, and industry to surface government H-1B sponsorship jobs in Arizona without manually combing through postings. Because many government-sector employers only list sponsorship willingness in their full job descriptions, Migrate Mate's filtering saves significant time by surfacing verified sponsorship-open roles in Arizona's public and defense sectors.
Are there any Arizona-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in government roles?
Arizona's heavy defense and federal contractor presence means many government-sector H-1B roles may require security clearances, which can complicate or extend the process for foreign nationals. Certain classified positions are restricted to U.S. citizens outright. Additionally, public university employers like Arizona State University and University of Arizona are cap-exempt H-1B sponsors, meaning they can file petitions year-round without entering the annual lottery.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B government jobs in Arizona?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
